Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2012 - Sail for Gold - Weymouth GBR - Day 1

The 6th Olympic Classes Worldcup event began yesterday on the Olympic waters of Weymouth on an inshore course with light winds and a strong current. The Lasers Standard split in two fleets could only complete one race, while the Radials finished a second race late in the afternoon. Both winning the heats of their fleets, Simon Grotelüschen GER and Philipp Buhl GER are on top of the overall rankings. Cy Thompson ISV and Keerati Bualong THA follow jointly on rank 3. On rank 5 with 3rd place finishes are Bruno Fontes BRA and Tom Burton AUS. The top favorite Tom Slingsby AUS proved with a fourth position that in the meantime, he can cope with all kinds of conditions. Fresh winds are announced for the coming days and Slingsby will hardly be beatable.
In the Lasers Radia, Dongshuang Zang CHN is first with the day ranks 1 and 3 followed by Isabella Bertold CAN and Fatima Reyes ESP. Best of the favorites are Evi Van Acker BEL 5th, Sari Multala FIN 6th and Gintare Scheidt LTU 8th.
