Mini 650 - Mini-Transat - Las Palmas ESP - Leg 2 - Start today

Mini 650 - Mini-Transat - Las Palmas ESP - Leg 2 - Start today The start to the second leg, 2'900 nm long across the Atlantic Ocean to Martinique, will be given in Las Palmas today at 13h UTC. A depression between the Bahamas and the Acores prompted the Race Director to deviate the course direction Cape Verdes to lead the fleet South of the perturbations. Here the news. Considering the small gaps between the boats, the race will practically be reopened. Ian Lipinski POL as leader in the Protos and Valentin Gautier SUI on first in the Series Minis will have much to do to defend their leads.
As usual, the race can be followed over GPS positioning. The event facebook page with the latest photos before the start and the ranking lists of leg 1.

Mini 650 - Mini-Transat - Las Palmas ESP - Leg 2

Mini 650 - Mini-Transat - Las Palmas ESP - Leg 2 Tomorrow, the start to the second leg of the Mini-Transat will be given on Gran Canaria. The 84 participants spent the past 10 days to recover and relax as well of course some maintenance and repair work on their boats. The wind forecast promises rather moderate conditions for the Atlantic crossing with not too strong trade winds. With the top boats in both categories closely together - the Protos with Ian Lipinski POL leading and Series Minis with Valentin Gautier SUI on first - the present rankings are of little significance for the outcome of the race considering the twice as long second leg.
