Sailing was one of the best represented sports at the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the Maracana Stadium last Friday. Brazil's five-time Olympic medallist Torben Grael was one of a select group of athletes to carry the flag of the International Olympic Committee into the stadium, and the other of Brazil's five-time Olympic medal winners, Robert Scheidt, had the honour of reading out the athlete's oath on behalf of all competitors at the Rio Games. There were 12 nations that chose sailors as their flag bearers. The official report.
Tomorrow Monday, the first sailing events will be on the program with the men and women Laser fleets and the men and women RS:X windsurfers. As expected, light winds will prevail during the first days.
