IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 22
After two rather slow days, the leading duo has pushed the throttle again accelerating on speeds above 20 kn. Alex Thompson GBR ('Hugo Boss'), leading since the start, has obviously a handicap with his broken foil appendage, as his speed is 2 - 3 kn lower, and he lost his lead yesterday. Armel Le Cléac'h FRA ('Banque Populaire') overtook him and had already a 30 nm advantage this morning. Sébastien Josse FRA ('Edmond de Rothschild') follows with a 500 nm backlog on rank 3. Today, Jean-Pierre Dick FRA and Thomas Ruyant FRA will be next to round Cape of Good Hope with a deficit of over 1'700 nm. Jérémie Beyou FRA, rank 5, is racing 'blind' as the weather information satellite system broke. He has now to look for information in official Vendée safety reports.
