Laser Olympic Worldcup 2017 Miami FL, USA Day 1
The first 2017 Olympic Classes Worldcup event began yesterday in Miami.
Finishing 1 and 4, Karl-Martin Rammö EST, a new name, took the lead in the Lasers Standard ahead of Nick Thompson GBR and Tomas Pellejero ARG. Philipp Buhl GER followed on rank 4. Some of the favorites had a rather slow start such as Pavlos Kontides CYP as 22nd and Tonci Stipanovic CRO on 29th.
In the Lasers Radial, Vasileia Karachaliou GRE is on top ahead of the experienced Evi Van Acker BEL and Mathilde de Kerengeat FRA.
The much awaited comeback of the Olympic Champion Anna Tunnicliffe USA was unfortunately cancelled, due to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s denial of her expedited request to return to active status in January of 2017. Instead. she has been cleared to compete starting on July 6, 2017. Tunnicliffe had the full support of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), World Sailing and US Sailing in her effort to receive an exemption and return to active competition this week (see details in Scuttlebutt).
