IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Ultime, Multi 50 Route du Rhum Day 9
While the leading Multi 50, Open 60 and Class 40 are progressing fast and gently in the well-established trade winds, the second half of the fleet are encountering adventurous conditions. Many boats did just leave the shelter harbours at the Spanish Coast, but on their way South West, the next storm depression is about to reign over Madeira in the coming two days.
On top of the rankings, nothing has changes in the past 24 hours. In two days, Armel Tripon FRA will reach Guadeloupe as winner in the Multi 50. With an advantage of over 400nm, he will hardly be beaten.
Ahead of all other Multi 50 is Alex Thomson with his Open 60 'Hugo Boss' sailing as 4th overall behind the three multihulls. With a 168nm lead, he is on a safe way to victory. Paul Meilhat FRA ('SMA') and Vincent Riou FRA ('PRB') stay on the ranks 2 and 3. Leader in the chaser group is now Damien Séguin FRA as 6th ahead of Alan Roura SUI ('La Fabrique') 4nm behind on 7th.
The advantage of Yoann Richomme FRA in the Class 40 is now 117nm ahead of Phil Sharp GBR.
