IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Ultime, Multi 50 - Route du Rhum - Day 12 - Paul Meilhat FRA Open 60 winner !

The Open 60 Route du Rhum finish ended with an unexpected incident. The safe leader Alex Thomson GBR crashed with his 'Hugo Boss' on a rock off the Guadeloupe island 80nm before the arrival. He succeeded to free the boat that had only minor damage using the engine, but he was penalized with a 24hrs time correction for using the motor. Arriving 12hrs after Thomson, Paul Meilhat FRA ('SMA') with his non-foiling Open 60 was declared winner. On rank 2 followed Yann Eliès FRA arriving 2hrs later. Alan Roura SUI is still in duel for rank 6 with Damien Séguin FRA 40nm ahead.
Yesterday, two more Multis 50 crossed the finish line: Erwan Le Roux FRA and Thibault Vauchel-Camus FRA.
In the Class 40, Yoann Richomme FRA is now 92nm ahead of Phil Sharp GBR, and they are expected to arrive on Monday. Jacques Valente SUI is on rank 34 and he will be underway for another week.
