The Golden Globe Race Les Sables d'Olonne Day 201 Duel on the home stretch !
18 Solo-Skippers departed on July 18, 2018 to the 50-Year-Jubilee Golden Globe Race, commemorating the first solo round-the-world race of 1968. Sailing on yachts as built 50 years ago with limited communication facilities, this is still a rather risky undertaking. Only 6 of the original starters are still in the race with the leader now 1'700nm from the finish line. The outcome has become very open as the dominating leader with an up to 2000nm advantage, Jean-Luc Van den Heede FRA, is being challenged by Mark Slats NED now only 50nm back. Van den Heede damaged the rig of his yacht in the South Pacific and has been sailing at reduced power since.
The report.
