Calms over Athens kept the fleet ashore during the whole day and only 10 minutes before the last start deadline, the sail-off for the ranks 11 to 80 could be started. The Medal Race had to be cancelled.
Giles Scott GBR is the 2019 European Champion, another title in his successful career. Andy Maloney NZL and Beresz Zsombor HUN earned Silver and Bronze. Juan Cardona ESP is first in the U23 Junior rankings. In the duel for the remaining two 2020 Olympic nation berths - Norway and Brazil were qualified being in the Medal Race fleet - the USA with Caleb Paine and Greece with Ioannis Mitakis were the lucky ones. Switzerland with Nils Theuninck SUI finished the race on 8th defending rank 11 overall, not only taking the Olympia berth but also the U23 title. However, disqualified having been involved in a collision at a mark, the Swiss dropped on the 22nd place overall, and Bronze in the U23 rankings was all that remained. His last opportunity to qualify for Tokyo 2020 is now the 2020 Worldcup Regatta in Genoa ITA.
