A 25-30kts breeze from the North, swinging to the West with gusts above 70kts prevailed for most of day one of the combined 49er, 49erFX and Nacra17 World Championships in Auckland NZL. Racing was cancelled for the day for the 49erFX and Nacra17, while the 49ers started racing at 3:30 when the breeze settled down to 8-10 kts from offshore. ----- Clear leaders after 2 races are Erik Heil/Thomas Ploessel GER (ranks 1 and 2) ahead of Kevin Fischer/Yann Jauvin FRA (5/1) and Bart Lambrieux/Pim van Vugt NED (3/4). ----- The America's Cup, Olympic and World Champions Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL are 11th, Sebastian Schneiter/Lucien Cujean SUI, the only Swiss in Auckland, 14th. ----- The 49er results. ----- For the first time, a public TV station transmits the competition full-length live against a modest fee. ----- The event website.
