IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 14 Alex Thomson GBR in troubles
During the last night (UTC), Alex Thomson GBR, sailing in 2nd place, reported structural damage to his 'Hugo Boss'. It is not yet known how severe these are, but Thomson had to slow down considerably and is now sailing with only 6kn. It remains to be seen whether repairs are possible. Thomas Ruyant FRA '(LinkedOut', Foiler) still holds the lead, 38nm ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA ('Apivia', Foiler). Thomson follows 73nm behind in 3rd place. The leading trio has already been affected by lighter winds of the St-Helena Anticyclone, allowing Jean Le Cam FRA '(Yes we Cam', Non-Foiler) in 4th place to catch up. He was 275 miles behind this morning, closely followed by a group of six only 100 miles apart, with Boris Herrmann GER in 6th place ('SeaExplorer', Foiler, 355nm behind) and Samantha Davis GBR in 10th place ('Initiatives Coeur', Foiler, 417nm behind). ----- The race tracker and the reports.
