Yesterday, the two big multihulls of the Ultime category - the trimaran 'Spindrift II' (140-foot) with Yann Guichard FRA/Dona Bertarelli SUI and the half-the-size MOD70 trimaran 'Musandam - Oman Sail' with Sydney Gavignet FRA - started in Quebec CAN to their Transat. The wind forecast ist favorable and it might well be, that the record will be beaten. The Multi-50 trimarans, now close together because of the strong tide currents, have reached the open sea. Gilles Lamiré FRA is only 2 miles in front of Thierry Brouchard FRA, with Lalou Roucayrol FRA another mile behind. The new leader in the Class 40 is Jules Bonnier FRA ahead of Bertrand Guillonneau FRA and Mykael Ryking SWE closely behind.
