Laser Standard World Championship 2017 Split CRO Final results Gold for Pavlos Kontides CYP
Yesterday, the second thunderstorm of the week at the Laser World Championships passing over Split CRO held the fleet on shore, destroying the gradient wind. The following light and unstable Eastwind did not allow to start racing on the final day of the event.
Pavlos Kontides CYP is therefore the new Laser World Champion. In 2012, Kontides was the first Cypriot athlete to win a an Olympic Medal. He has been training with the most successful Croate team for years and capitalized now on the experiences gained on the 'local' waters. The Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS earned Silver with 15 points' backlog. Only one point behind followed Matthew Wearn AUS on the 3rd place. Philipp Buhl GER on 4th missed a medal by 6 pts. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, leader during the whole week, finished down on the 7th position.
