Light winds prevailed yesterday during the first five Medal Races of the Hyères Worldcup event.
In the RS:X men windsurfers, the ranks 1 to 3 went to France: Pierre Le Coq FRA was the winner ahead of Louis Giard FRA and Thomas Goyard FRA who climbed on the podium with a Medal Race victory. In the RS:X women windsurfers, Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL defended her lead ahead of Peina Chen CHN and Malgorzata Bialecka POL on the ranks 2 and 3.
Four of the 10 starters in the 49ers were disqualified under blackflag. This opened the way to the top for Dominik Buksak/Szymon Wierzbicki POL, who were in the leading group during the whole week. New on the ranks 2 and 3 are Dunning/Gunn NZL and Porebski/Rippey NZL. With a victory in the Medal Race, Alexandra Maloney/Molly Meech NZL moved on top of the 49ersFX. Baad-Nielsen/Thusgard DEN finished on 2nd one point behind. Travascio/Brand ARG grasped Bronze in the last race.
The Nacra-17 winners Ruggero Tita/Caterina Banti ITA were know prematurely as winners. Ben Saxton/Nicola Boniface GBR defended rank 2, while Iker Martinez/Olga Maslivets ESP advanced on rank 3 winning the Medal Race.
For the remaining 5 classes, the last qualification races were on the program.
The Finns remained ashore due to lack of sufficient wind. Nicholas Heiner NED departs to the Medal Race with a 4 points lead on Jorge Zarif BRA and 6 points on Alican Kaynar TUR.
Dahlberg/Bergström SWE are the premature overall winners in the 470 men before the Medal Race with a 27 points' advantage on Belcher/Ryan AUS, who - together with Snow-Hansen/Wilcox NZL - will fight for Silver and Bronze today. In the 470 women, Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA are 9 points ahead of Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR. Ai Kondo/Miho Yoshioka JPN will have to concentrate on the defense of Bronze in today's race.
