Dragon - Gold Cup 2016 - Hornbaek DEN - Day 3, the Swiss

After the unplanned break due to the passing storm, the Dragon Gold Cup in Denmark continued yesterday with race 2 in a 14-18 kn wind won by Grant Gordon GBR/Kasper Harsberg DEN/Ruairidh Scott GBR. New on top of the rankings are Markus Brennecke GER/Jochen Schümann GER/Theis Palm DEN thanks to a 3rd race rank. Only one point behind on rank 2 follows Henrik Witzmann GER/UAE. Eugenij Braslavets UKR/UAE is on the 3rd place. Hugo Stenbeck SUI advanced on rank 6.

Optimist, Surprise, Yardstick - Copa Roda - CV Lago di Lugano

Best thermal breeze conditions prevailed over the past weekend on Lake Lugano where the traditional Copa Roda was sailed by a remarkable 70 boats' fleet. In the largest fleet, 36 Optimists, the winner after 7 races was Ludovico Cornaro CVLL ahead of Noë Herrmann YCAs and Giorgia Ghezzi SUI. In the Surprise, Sebastiano Baranzini CVLL and his team was on top. All ranking lists.

Bénéteau Figaro - Douarnenez-Horta - Day 4, Justine Mettraux SUI

The fleet proceeded at good speeds yesterday driven by a moderate 15 to 20 kn wind from astern. New on top of the rankings is Nicolas Lunven FRA 2 miles ahead of Sébastien Simon FRA and Yoann Richomme FRA. Justine Mettraux SUI has decided to resume racing after the repair stop to join the fleet actively in the second leg of the race back from the Acores to France. The race tracker and the reports.

14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 5, the Swiss

The 14-Footers had their lay day yesterday and today the crucial phase of the World begins. Up to now, the Championship was controlled by Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR with three bullets in the moderate wind races. Six points behind, Jones/Fitzgerald GBR remain in the fight for the title. The ranking list has been dominated by the British and Australians so far. Oliver Voss/Eike Ehrig GER on the 11th place are the best Germans, Sandro Mani/Luca Marchini SUI follow on rank 67 among the 76 teams.

 14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 4 After the rough Sunday in Carnac FRA with winds exceeding 20 kn, the sun and a moderate breeze between 12 and 15 kn were back, conditions, that make Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR apparently unbeatable. Booking the third bullet in four races, they lead with a 6 points' advantage on Jones/Fitzgerald GBR. Gilbert/McGrane GBR on 3rd are 3 points behind. Sandro Mani/Luca Marchini SUI remained on rank 67 among the 78 teams.

 Dragon - Gold Cup 2016 - Hornbaek DEN - Day 2, the Swiss The Dragon Goldcup began on Sunday in Hornbaek DEN north of Helsingör, and one race could be sailed in a moderate wind. Yesterday, a fresh breeze exceeding 30 kn filled in and racing was cancelled for the day. Gavia Wilkinson-Cox GBR and her team won the only race mastering the strong currents the best. On rank 2 followed Jörgen Schönherr DEN, another specialist in currents.Hugo Stenbeck SUI and his team are on rank 10 among the 74 Dragons from 14 nations.

Top sailing conditions prevailed at the Regio Youth Cup Central Switzerland organised as part of the 2016 Windweek in Brunnen SUI. The winners after six races were: Maxime Thommen YCZ Optimists (29 boats), Remo Steinmann SCH Laser 4.7, Silvan Bohren YCZ Laser Radial, Florian Geissbühler/Livio Erni YCB/SCC 420.

 Bénéteau Figaro - Douarnenez-Horta - Day 3, Justine Mettraux SUI Close-up of the fleet in the unconstant winds off Cape Finisterre and at some time, the first 13 boats were separated by 7 miles only. This morning, the two 'Macif' boats were back on top with Yoann Richomme FRA 3 miles ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA. New on rank 3 is Sébastien Simon FRA. Justine Mettraux SUI is back in the harbour despite of the broken forestay. Repairs have been started, as she has not yet decided whether she will resume racing.

Good sailing conditions prevailed during this year's 50-Miles'-Trophy, finishing in Brunnen amidst the high activities of the Windweek. Firsts to cross the finish line were the Quant-30 of Peter Seinet SCT and Andreas Zimmerli SCU. Heinz and Pascal Marty RVB on their Cecarelli 33 followed with a 15 minutes' backlog on rank 3.

 14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 3, the Swiss Since last Friday, the 14-Footers are sailing their World Championship in Carnac FRA. After two light-wind days, a fresh wind exceeding 20 kn prevailed yesterday. Three races have been completed so far with the British teams dominating.
Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR, winners of the two light-wind races, are in the lead with Gilbert/McGrane GBR and Massey/Hillary GBR as first chasers. The only Swiss team with Sandro Mani/Luca Marchini SUI are on rank 67 among the 76 participants from 9 nations.

 Melges 20 - World Championship 2016 - Scarlino ITA - Final results, the Swiss Michael Illbruck GER/John Kostecki USA/Federico Michetti ITA grasped the Melges-20 World's title with the ranks 2 and 5 in the last two races yesterday. Drew Freides USA and his team, leading during the whole Championship, had as miserable day with the ranks 12 and 39 and dropped on rank 2. Krystof Kremec POL jumped on the podium with two race wins yesterday finishing 3rd. Richard Davies SUI/Chris Rast SUI added another two top-15 ranks and finished on the 9th place overall.

M2-Catamarans - Speed Tour 2016 - CN Morges

 M2-Catamarans - Speed Tour 2016 - CN Morges Over the past weekend, the M2-catamarans resumed racing at the 2016-Speed-Tour after the summer vacation break in Morges. Good conditions prevailed with sun and a 8 to 10 kn wind, and 10 races could be completed. In addition, the CNM night regatta ('Grandbordenuit') was part of the rankings. The overall leader 'Swiss Medical Network' with Michel Vaucher CNM won in Morges as well, leaving 'TeamWork' with Nils Palmieri SNG and 'Spam' wit Olivier Légeret SNG on the ranks 2 and 3.

 Bénéteau Figaro - Douarnenez-Horta - Day 2, Justine Mettraux SUI The fleet has made good mileage in a fresh northwesterly breeze and was already in the approach to Cape Finisterre at the northwest point of Spain this morning. The leading boats are still closely together. Yoann Richomme FRA leads one mile ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA and Gildas Morvan. Three of the five newcomers in the fleet (the 'Bizuths') were already forced to abandon the race, among them Justine Mettraux SUI returning to France with a broken forestay.

 Classes ACVL - La Belle étoile - YC Genève - the results The YC Geneva organised the traditional night regatta 'Belle Etoile' on last Saturday. Winner after 6 hours was 'Triumvirat' with Gilles Sauvin followed by the Psaros 33 'Joker' with J-O Kerr. The Melges 32 with Jean-Marc Deryng followed as 3rd among the 17 participants. In calculated time, the Melges 32 was first in the larger boats, the reduced course winner was 'Julie' with Bruno Schaerrer followed by the Surprise of Caroline Cartier. All ranking lists.

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Final results, the Swiss

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Final results, the Swiss The European U21 Laser Standard and Radial Championship was concluded yesterday with the races 8 & 9 sailed in moderate winds. Finishing twice as second, Joel Rodriguez ESP finally won the title clearly with an 11 points' advantage on Jonatan Vadnai HUN, a revenge for the defeat two weeks ago at the U21 Worlds in Kiel. Bronze went to Nils Theuninck SUI, leaving the tied Patrick Dopping DEN on rank 4 thanks to a race win.
In the Lasers Radial, Sandra Lulic CRO was the undisputed winner with an 18 points advantage on Monika Mikkola FIN. As best of the day with the ranks 1 and 3, Ekaterina Zyuzina RUS grasped the Bronze Medal on the final day. At equal points with the Russian, Vasileia Karachaliou GRE and Clementine Thopson GBR finished on the ranks 4 and 5. Thanks to the second discard, Maud Jayet SUI moved up on rank 10. Lucie Ben-Amor SUI remained on rank 16.

 Platu 25 - World Championship 2016 - RV Brunnen SUI - Final results The superior Eric Monnin SUI with his French team had everything under control on the last day of the Platu-25 World Championship in Brunnen SUI, again with best Lake Uri thermal breeze conditions, winning the title with an 18 points' advantage ahead of Matthias Bermejo SUI. The Italian duel for Bronze went in favor of Tommaso De Bellis ITA with a first place in the final race. The defending champion Francesco Lanera ITA missed the podium by one points.

 Bénéteau Figaro - Douarnenez-Horta-Douarnenez-Solo - Day 1, Justine Mettraux SUI Yesterday, 17 Solo-Skippers started to the offshore race to the Acores and back to France with the best of the Bénéteau Class on the entry list. The newcomer Justine Mettraux SUI participates as well after a series of good results in her first season. This morning, the leader was Yoann Richomme FRA one mile ahead of Corentin Douget FRA and Nicolas Lunven FRA. Justine Mettraux SUI follows on rank 13 with a 3 miles' backlog.

 Melges 20 - World Championship 2016 - Scarlino ITA - Day 3, the Swiss Only one race was completed yesterday at the Melges-20 Worlds in Scarlino ITA. In a very light breeze, the winner was Alexander Novoselov RUS. Drew Freides USA and his team on rank 3 were the only ones of the top-10 teams with one-digit finish, extending his lead on Michael Illbruck GER on 4 points. New on rank 3 is Achille Onorato ITA. Richard Davies SUI (with Chris Rast SUI) finished 10th, the best result so far, but loosing one rank on new the 11th place overall.

 Classes ACVL - Translémanique en Solitaire - SN Genève - Win for Alain Gautier FRA In a varying race in an up to 20 kn wind, the former Vendée-Globe winner Alain Gautier FRA finished first of the Solo Translémanique on a Psaros 33 after 13 hrs 14 minutes. François Bopp SUI on a Psaros 40 and Lucien Cujean SUI on a Luthy F10 followed on the ranks 2 and 3. Alan Roura SUI, the only Swiss entry to the Vendée Globe in two months, was 4th. 115 SolovSkippers participated, 80 have finished up to now (7 a.m. CET).

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 5, the Swiss

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 5, the Swiss Each fleet completed two races at the U21 Europeans in Split yesterday in moderate conditions.
The duel on top of the Laser Standard Goldfleet seems to develop in favor of Joel Rodriguez ESP this time. He has a 5 points' advantage on Jonatan Vadnai HUN before the last races today. Nils Theuninck SUI on 3rd is already 21 points behind the leader, but he has a 7 points' lead on the 4th-ranked, and the Bronze Medal is within reach today. Luciano Antonietti SUI is now 11th (= 54th overall) in the Silverfleet.
Suspense still in the Lasers Radial: Sandra Lulic CRO has a solid 7 points' lead on Monika Mikkola FIN, but the gap to the 3rd-ranked Clementine Thompson GBR is only one point, and another point back is already Martina Reina ESP. Maud Jayet SUI is now 12th but with the second discard in effect this evening, she will make a big step forward, as for the moment, the abandoned race is still in the results' count.

 Platu 25 - World Championship 2016 - RV Brunnen SUI - Day 4 Best thermal breeze conditions prevailed on Lake Uri also yesterday and another three races have been completed. Eric Monnin SUI won again two heats and is now before the last races today 13 points ahead (and the ranks 4 and 5 as discards). The title will therefore most likely be his. The third race win of the day went to Matthias Bermejo SUI who moved up on rank 2. Tommaso De Bellis ITA on the third position is 3 points behind, and also Francesca Lanera ITA on rank 4 can still aim for a Medal.

 Melges 20 - World Championship 2016 - Scarlino ITA - Day 2, the Swiss Light and variable winds prevailed on the second day of the Melges 20 World Championship in Scarlino ITA, but enough to complete two races. With the ranks 4 and 2, Drew Freides USA (tactics Morgan Reeser USA) has taken the lead one point ahead of Michael Illbruck GER. Liam Kilroy USA (Steve Hunt USA) on 3rd is already 24 points behind. Although the one-digit race results were again missing, Richard Davies SUI (Chris Rast SUI) moved up on rank 7 overall.

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 4, the Swiss Yesterday, the U21 Lasers Standard started the Final Series at the Europeans split in a Gold- and Silverfleet, while the Radials continued in one fleet.
In the Laser Standard Goldfleet, the duel between Joel Rodriguez ESP and Jonatan Vadnai HUN - on top with the same number of points - went on. Third with a 9 points' backlog is now Nils Theuninck SUI. Patrick Dopping DEN and John Cookson GBR follow at equal points on rank 4. In the U19-rankings of the Standards, Jonatan Vadnai HUN stays obviously on rank 1.
In the Radials, Sandra Lulic CRO remains on rank 1. Monika Mikkola FIN advanced on the 2nd place with a 10 points' deficit on the leader. Martina Reina ESP on the 3rd position is at equal points with Mikkola. Maud Jayet SUI was the day's best with the ranks 4 and 2 and progressed on the 8th place. Lucie Ben-Amor SUI remains 16th.

 Melges 20 - World Championship 2016 - Scarlino ITA - Day 1, the Swiss Sun and a 10-14 kn breeze made the first day of the Melges 20 World Championship at the Tuscany Coast a success, allowing to complete three good races. Michael Illbruck GER (with John Kostecki USA as tactician) won two and took the overall lead, 4 points ahead of Drew Freides USA (Morgan Reeser USA) on 2nd and Achille Onorato ITA (Cameron Appleton NZL) on 3rd. Richard Davies SUI (with Chris Rast SUI) was not yet up to speed and with the ranks 16/12/11 is only 9th overall.

Laser - Swiss Championship 2016 - Silvaplana - Final results

The Laser Swiss Championship on Lake Silvaplana ended yesterday in good Maloja breeze conditions with two races for each of the three classes.
The Laser 4.7 (PDF) Championship was disputed until the last race with Finn Holtrop NED grasping the title winning the final heat. Paolo Ferrari CVLL and Gauthier Verhulst CNP follow tied on the ranks 2 and 3 only one point behind. Also at equal points, but with lower race rankings finished Matthew Keller SNG on 4th. The best Girl Annabelle Westerhof NED is on rank 5, only 2 points behind the first.
Clear however was the situation in the Laser Radial (PDF) with Max Haenssler AVP winning 4 of the 5 races. Grégoire Peverelli SNG and Artur Baudet SNG completed the podium. Sarah Bos NED on rank 9 is the best Girl in the 36 boats' fleet. Guillaume Girod SNG in the Laser Standard (PDF) has also 4 race wins on his results sheet keeping Patrick Fleischhacker CVVT on rank 2. Blaise Fruttero CNV moved up on the 3rd position.

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 3, the Swiss

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 3, the Swiss The initial fresh wind days were over yesterday with a light breeze allowing just one race per fleet.
In the Standards, the favorites both won the races in their groups, and thanks to the better discard result, Joel Rodriguez ESP has now taken the overall fleet ahead of Jonatan Vadnai HUN at equal points. On rank 3 follows Patrick Dopping DEN. Excellent still Nils Theuninck SUI on the 5th place only one point behind the podium. Luciano Antonietti SUI advanced on rank 47, only four ranks before the Goldfleet cut.
The leading Laser Radial women must have disliked the light wind, as all sailed their discard race. Sandra Lulic CRO remains on top 3 points ahead of Marie Barrué FRA. Winning the race, Valentina Balbi ITA moved up on rank 3. Maud Jayet SUI too had difficulties with the light wind and dropped on rank 13 overall. Lucie Ben-Amor SUI lost some ranks as well and is now 21st.

 Laser - Swiss Championship 2016 - Silvaplana - Day 3 After two days with unsailable Northwinds, the thermal Maloja breeze finally filled in yesterday and all three fleets completed 3 races each.
In the Lasers Standard (PDF), Guillaume Girod SNG confirmed his role as favorite, winning all three heats. In his comeback after a long absence from sail racing, Patrick Fleischhacker CVVT finished three times as 2nd. 3rd are at equal points Markus Ochs CVVT and Lauri Kalkkinen SNG. In the Lasers Radial (PDF), the biggest fleet with 38 participants, Max Haenssler AVP is on top with three race wins. Jacopo Scornaienghi CVLL and Arthur Baudet SNG follow on the ranks 2 and 3. In the Lasers 4.7 (PDF), three athletes are on top at equal points: Joshua Schopfer SNG, Finn Holtrop NED dnd Lino Kersting YCL, all on 13 points. One point back, Felix Baudet SNG and Gauthier Verhulst CNP will also fight for the title in today's final races. The announced wind conditions should again allow to finish tree races per fleet.

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 2, the Swiss

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 2, the Swiss Sun and fresh winds prevailed also on the second day of the Laser U21 Europeans, and all three fleets completed 2 races each.
In the Lasers Standard as at the U21 Worlds in Kiel, the duel between Jonatan Vadnai HUN and Joel Rodriguez ESP seems to continue. They occupy the top two ranks separated be one point only. Joan Cardona ESP follows on the 3rd place. Jonatan Vadnai HUN is also leading in the U19 rankings. Among the best of the day was also Nils Theuninck SUI, advancing on the 6th position thanks to a race win in his group. Luciano Antonietti SUI (rank 54) and Janik Roempp SUI (rank 58) have to improve their performance to make the Goldfleet of the 43 best.
In the Radials, the new leader is Sandra Lulic CRO 3 points ahead of Marie Barrué FRA. Anna Zelic CRO is now 3rd. Maud Jayet SUI could not quite follow the best and is now down on the 8th place, still an excellent result. Lucie Ben-Amor SUI is 16th.

 Flying Phantom - Swiss Flying Phantom Series - CV Vallée de Joux On the occasion of the Bol d'Or on the Lac de Joux, the foiler catamarans Flying Phantom sailed their 2nd round of the Swiss Series. Three short races were sailed in rain on Saturday, the Bol d'Or long-distance race followed on Sunday. 'Realteam 2' with Bruno Barbarin/Cédric Schmidt was first ahead of 'Team Tilt' with Alex Schneiter/..Siegwart.

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 1, the Swiss

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Day 1, the Swiss A fresh 20-25 kn breeze prevailed in Split CRO yesterday on the first day of the U21-European Championship of the Lasers Standard and Radial. The winners of the U21-Worlds in Kiel as well as the two top Swiss U21 sailors Nils Theuninck SUI and Maud Jayet SUI, among the best in Kiel, are on the list of participants.
The 85 Lasers Standard are sailing in two groups. Day winners were Maxim Nikolaev RUS and Juan Cardona ESP. Nils Theuninck SUI finished 7th in his group and is 13th overall. Janik Roempp SUI follows as 29th.
The Lasers Radial are sailing in one group. Marie Barrué FRA won the first race ahead of Sandra Lulic CRO and Ana Zelic CRO. Maud Jayet SUI follows on rank 7, Lucie Ben-Amor SUI was 13th.

 Platu 25 - World Championship 2016 - RV Brunnen SUI - Start today Perfect Lake Uri thermal breeze conditions prevailed on the first day of the Platu-25-World Championship 2016 with the Practice Race. Today, the 30 teams from 10 nations will start racing. Favorites are the experienced Italian teams, but Thomas Laherstorfer AUT, Matthias Bermejo SUI or Tom Studer SUI are also names to expect among the best. The Platu Worlds is the main event of this year's Windweek in Brunnen SUI.  Windsurfing - Swiss Championship 2016 - Silvaplana - Final results The weather change over Europe, forcing the organisers to abandon the traditional - 39th edition - Engadine Marathon, stayed on during Sunday as well, and no racing was possible for the Formula Course-Racer and the Slalom Specialists.
With 4 races completed, the Course-Race Swiss Championship could be validated, whereas the Slalom Swiss Championship with only one run is not valid. The 2016 Swiss Champion is Sebastian Kördel GER ahead of Nico Prien GER 2nd and Richard Stauffacher SUI 3rd. Heidi Ulrich SUI is the best-ranked woman.

 Windsurfing - Swiss Championship 2016 - Silvaplana - Day 3 With the weather change yesterday, th Maloja thermal breeze started to fill in, but not always stable. Nevertheless, two race have been completed by the Formula races, while the Slalom specialists finished one round.
Sebastian Kördel GER win race 3 of the Formula fleet ahead of Richard Stauffacher SUI and Nico Prien GER. Richard Stauffacher was first in the second heat of the day: race 4 ahead of Nico Prien GER and Elia Colombo SUI. Overall leader is Bastian Kördel GER ahead of Nico Prien GER and Richard Stauffacher SUI.
In the women's rankings, the young Swiss Romande Marion Froideveaux knapp was first ahead of Heidi Ulrich. Overall leader after 4 races is Heidi Ulrich in front of Marion Froidevaux.
The unconstant wind did not allow to terminate the Slalom Final that had to be abandoned several time. Winner in the women's fleet was Karin Jaggi followed by Marion Froidevaux and Heidi Ulrich after a tight duel decided just on the finish line.

 OLYMPIC GAMES 2016 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Final results The last Swiss team in action were Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser SUI in the 470 men Medal Race. Attacking on the preferred side on the first upwind, they distanced the rest of the fleet right from the beginning and won the Medal Race with a considerable advantage.  Mini 650 - Les Sables-Les Acores-Les Sables - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Leg 2 - Final results After Ambrogio Beccaria ITA arriving as first in the Series Minis - we reported yesterday - the complete fleet crossed the finish line in the Sables d'Olonne within 20 hours. Tanguy Bourroulec FRA on rank 2 with a 37 minutes backlog is the overall winner as he was first in lew 1. Yann Burkhalter SUI finished on the good 6th place, Valentin Gautier SUI follows on rank 10. The overall ranking list after the two legs has not yet been published this morning on the event website.
