 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Final results, 5 of 6 medsls go to China, one to Switzerland The RS:X Windsurfing World Championship in Japan was concluded this morning with the Medal Races.
In the RS:men, the leading Bing Ye CHN controlled Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI one point behind right from the start and sailed the Swiss down on the last place, earning the Worlds title. Behind the Vice-Worldchampion Sanz-Lanz - the only non-Chinese Medal winner at this Championship - Mengfan Gao CHN won Bronze. Juan Bosco Barba MEX is 55th, Ignacio Berenguer MEX 69th and Gabriel Verrier-Paquette CAN 76th.
A triple Chinese victory occurred in the RS:X women with Peina Chen CHN Gold, Jiahui Wu CHN Silver and Yunxiu Lu CHN Bronze. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL missed Bronze by one point. Farrah Hall USA is 42nd.

 Beach-Catamaran - Yvan Bourgnon SUI finished the North/West Passage successfully After 71 days, Yvan Bourgnon SUI reached the port of destination Nuuk on Greenland as the first beach catamaran crossing the North-West Passage single-handed and without outside help. "If i had known the exercions and troubles, I would probably not have undertaken this adventure." The icy temperatures, the drift-ice, stormy winds and the polar bears really did put life at stake.

 J/70 - Sailing Champions League - Final - Porto Cervo ITA - Day 1 The European Sailing Champions' League Final with the 32 best European Club Teams began yesterday in Porto Cervo/Sardinia ITA. Three complete flights and two races of flight 4 were run in a perfect 12 to 15 kn breeze.
Winning all three races, the host-club YC Costa Smeralda with Flavio Favini ITA has taken the lead only point ahead of Société Nautique of Geneva (double America's Cup Holder) with Guillaume Girod SUI. On rank 3 follows the Russian 'Lord of the Sail' with Ewgenij Neugodnikov RUS. The German Lindauer SC is 4th.

 TP52 - Super Series 2017 - Menorca ESP - Day 4 The final Round of the TP52 Super Series continued yesterday on Menorca ESP with two light-wind races. None of the top three title challengers could maintain a decisive high level of consistency, but 'Azzurra' of the Roemers familiy ITA/ARG with Guilermo Parada ARG/Vasco Vascotto ITA still carries a seven points lead into the final day. The fleet stays closely together with 'Gladiator' of Tony Langley GBR with Ed Baird USA on rank 2 and the tied 'Quantum' with Doug Devos/Terry Hutchinson USA and 'Platoon' with Harm Müller-Spreer GER/John Kostecki USA on 3rd and 4th.

 D35-Catamaran - Grand Prix de Clôture - SN Genève - Day 1 In a light Séchard breeze - the local thermal wind on Lake Geneva - the final Act of the D35 catamaran Annual Chamionship, organised by the SN Geneva, began with seven races yesterday. 'Alinghi' with Ernesto Bertarelli SNG, premature winner of the 2017 Tour, dominated the day, winning all seven heats. On rank 2 follows 'Yliam' of Bertrand Demole SNG with Mathieu Richard FRA as tactician. 'Realteam' (btw leader of the GC32 Racing Tour) with Jerôme Clerc is on rank 3.

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 5, NorAms in second half of the fleets After the lay day, the first Final Series Gold- and Silverfleet races were on the program yesterday. Light winds challenged the drivers physically with ongoing pumping efforts. The light-weighted Chinese athletes dominated in the men's and women's fleets.
As best of the day, Ye CHN has taken the lead in the RS:X men, 3 pts ahead of Mengfan Gao CHN on 2nd. Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI is now on rank 3 with a 7 pts backlog on the leader and still chances for Gold or Silver. The big-breeze specialists however had a hard day. The two-times Olympic Champion Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED on rank 11 has to fight to make the Medal Race cut, as does Pawel Tarnowski POL (rank 12), Piotr Myszka POL (13th) or Kieran Badloe NED (14th). Juan Bosco Barba MEX is 57th, Ignacio Berenguer MEX 70th and Gabriel Verrier-Paquette CAN 81th. Today, three more races are on the program. The Medal Race will be tomorrow Saturday.
Leader change also in the RS:X women, where Jiahui Wu CHN replaced Peina Chen CHN on top, separated by 0,7 pts only. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL follows 5 pts back on rank 3. F<rrah Hall USA is 43rd.

 6mJI - World Championship 2017 - Vancouver CAN - Final results - Silver for Ben Mumford CAN (moderns) and for Peter Hofmann USA (classics) Two more races were sailed on the spare day of the 6 Meter Worlds in Vancouver CAN to complete the program as scheduled with 8 races.
Philipp Durr SUI and his team won one of the races and secured the title 5 pts ahead of Ben Mumford CAN who regained the 2nd place on his home waters, as Andy Beadsworth GBR now on 3rd was penalised after a premature start. Hugo Stenbeck SUI on 4th was only 1 pt behind Bronze and 2 pts behind Silver. Among the best of the day (3/4) was also Reinhard Suhner SUI, advancing on rank 9.
In the Classics, HM Juan-Carlos de Bourbon ESP defended his lead inspite of two medium ranks, grasping the title 3 pts ahead of Peter Hoffmann USA. Bronze went to the two-times Olympic medalist Lars Grael BRA.

'Quantum' of Doug Devos USA was the best of the day with the ranks 2/2, and moved up on the 3rd place overall. 'Azzurra' of the Roemers ITQ/ARG with Vasco Vascotto ITA remains on top but the advantage on the tied duo 'Platoon' (Harm Müller-Spreer GER/John Kostecki USA) and 'Quantum' has melted to one point.

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 4 Lay day in Enoshima JPN yesterday before the RS:X World Championship Final Series Gold- and Silverfleet races beginning today.
In the RS:X men, Louis Giard FRA leads with 2 pts on Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI and 4 pts on Pawel Tarnowski POL. Ignacio Berenguer MEX is 53rd, Juan Bosco Barba MEX 54 and Gabriel Verrier-Paquette CAN 80th. In the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN is on top with a 1,3 pts advantage on Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Farrah Hall USA is 39th.

 6mJI - World Championship 2017 - Vancouver CAN - Day 4 The 6 Meter Worlds in Vancouver CAN continued yesterday with two races in an up to 20 kn wind.
Inspite of two 5th places, Philipp Durr SUI defended his lead in the Open Division, but his advantage on Andy Beadsworth GBR before today's last races is only 2 pts. Tied on the ranks 3 and 4 are Ben Mumford £CAN and Russ Sylvestri USA 5 pts behind the leader. With the day ranks 1 and 2, Hugo Stenbeck SUI was the best of the day moving up on rank 5 overall. His backlog on the Bronze medal is only 2 pts.
On top of the Classic Division is HM Juan Carlos de Bourbon ESP with an 8 points lead on the tied Lars Guck HKG and Lars Grael BRA. and he will most likely finish the day as World Champion.

Overall first remains 'Azzurra' of the Roemers' family ITA/ARG with Francesco Bruni ITA calling the shots, but Tom Langley GBR with his 'Gladiator' closed the gap on the leading Italians.  Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Final results - Gold for Pavlos Kontides CYP, Barnard and Buckingham USA 13th and 15th The second thunderstorm of the week at the Laser World Championships passing over Split CRO held the fleet on shore, destroying the gradient wind. The following light and unstable Eastwind did not allow to start racing on the final day of the event.
Pavlos Kontides CYP is therefore the new Laser World Champion. In 2012, Kontides was the first Cypriot athlete to win a an Olympic Medal. He has been training with the most successful Croate team for years and capitalized now on the experiences gained on the 'local' waters. The Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS earned Silver with 15 points' backlog. Only one point behind followed Matthew Wearn AUS on the 3rd place. Philipp Buhl GER on 4th missed a medal by 6 pts. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, leader during the whole week, finished down on the 7th position. Chris Barnard USA is 13th, Charlie Buckingham USA 15th.

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2 Moderate winds prevailed on Tuesday, second day at the RS:X Windsurfer World Championship in Japan. The women sailed three, the men two races.
Louis Giard FRA remained on top of the RS:X men with the ranks 2 and 5. With the worst result discarded and the ranks 1 and 2 in his group, Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI advanced on rank 2 overall, Pawel Tarnowski POL remains on rank 3.
In the RS:X women, the Chinese women Peina Chen CHN leads with a 1,3 pts advantage on on Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Yunxiu Lu CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN follow on the ranks 3 and 4.

The circuit leader 'Azzurra' (Roemers family ARG/ITA) finished first ahead of 'Gladiator' and 'Sled'. and sees them open their overall margin to 8 pts on 'Platoon' (Harm Müller-Spreer GER) and 10 pts on 'Quantum Racing' (Doug DeVos USA).

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 5, Barnard and Buckingham USA 13th and 15th The sailing conditions on the second day of the Laser Standard Worlds' Final Series were quite different with a 14-16 kn wind and big waves. The Goldfleet completed three, the Silver- and Bronzefleet two races.
After his dive from rank 1 on rank 7 the day before yesterday, Pavlos Kontides CYP came back strongly with the ranks 1/2/5 and reclaimed the first place overall 15 (!) points ahead of the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS. Another points behind is Matthew Wearn AUS on rank 3. Philipp Buhl GER on rank 4 has still an option on a medal. Chris Barnard USA and Charlie Buckingham USA 2 pts behind are on the rank 13 and 15.

The RS:X Windsurfer World Championship 2017 began on the 2020 Olympic waters yesterday with two races per class. The overnight storm left the sea quite rough, but with 10-12 kn, the wind was down to moderate.
In the RS:X men, the interim's leader is Louis Giard FRA winning two races of his group. Makoto Tomizawa JPN follows 5 pts behind on rank 2. Only another point back are Pavel Tarnowski POL, Byron Kokkalanis GRE and Shahar Zubari ISR at equal points on the ranks 3 - 5. Juan Bosco Barba MEX is 29th, Gabriel Verrier-Paquette CAN is 73rd. No USA drivers.
In the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN won both races and leads overall 2 pts ahead of Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Hongmai Shi CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN are at equal points on rank 3. Farrah Hall USA is 33rd.

 Beach-Catamaran - Yvan Bourgnon SUI in the North-West Passage - Polar bear alert ! The stormy winds of the past days forced Yvan Bourgnon on his way South along the Canadian coast to hop from bay to bay for shelter. In Qikiqtarjuaq Bay, Bourgnon had the visit of an ice bear during the night, leaning on a hull of his catamaran. A shot with the signal pistol and shouting chased the animal away. The news.
