The second half of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship 2012 after the lay day began yesterday with two races sailed in an initial 15 kn breeze, decreasing during the day. In most of the classes, the situation remains fully open, and changes might occur especially as lighter winds have been announced for the last two days of the event.
In the 420-Boys, the leaders Pirouelle/Sipan FRA had their weakest day so far, allowing Goedhard/Van Stekelenborg NED to close the points' gap. As best of the day, the 3rd-ranked Charles/Charles ESP remain only 5 points behind. A five points' separation also for the first three in the 420-Girls with Smith/Clarke AUS ahead of Paternoster/Disalle ITA and Vose/Urwin GBR. The defending champions Robles/Trittel ESP in the 29ers succeeded to extend their lead on 3 points with two bullets yesterday, but Rual/Biton FRA keep on, and these two teams will fight for the title in the two days to come. Lange/Majdalani ARG on 3rd are already 16 points back. In the SL-16-catamarans, White/Britz GBR remain on top with Darmanin/Copeland AUS 4 points behind. Demesmaeker/Hendrickx BEL stays on rank 3. In spite of a premature start, Mitchell Kiss USA keeps a solid 11 points' lead in the Laser Radial-Boys. Marco Zani ITA and Mark Spearman AUS are on the positions 2 and 3. In the Laser Radial Girls, Julia Carlsson SWE has taken the lead for the first time with a 16 points' advantage over Maria-Cristina Boabaid BRA. Line Höst NOR descended on the 3rd rank. Even larger is the advance of Saskia Skills GBR in the RS:X-female windsurfers with 16 points on Naomi Cohen ISR and Anastasiya Valkevich BLR. The RS:X-Boys champion's race will be between the defending champion Wonwood Cho KOR and Mattia Camboni ITA only 2 points behind. Michael Cheng HKG on the 3rd place is over 20 points back.
