VOR-65 - Ocean Race - Leg 2 - Final Day

VOR-65 - Ocean Race - Leg 2 - Final Day Late this afternoon, the Spanish 'Mapfre' with Xavi Fernandez ESP will take the line honours in Cape Town, as the 39nm advantage on the Chinese 'Dongfeng' with Charles Caudrelier FRA will be sufficient to remain on top in the last 200nm left to the arrival. Only the last miles under the Table Mountain are tactically somewhat complicated. Behind 'Mapfre' follows 'Vestas' with Charlie Enright USA. The trio behind has lost contact with the rest of the fleet and will arrive with a considerable deficit in Cape Town.

VOR65 - Ocean Race 2017/18 - Leg 2 - Day 18 600nm - approx. 2 days - were left to Cape Town this morning for the leading 'Mapfre' (Xavi Fernandez ESP). Bad luck for Chappelier/Le Vaillant FRA, as they were caught by a fisherman's net close to the finish line. This morning, the 3rd-ranked Phil Sharp GBR/Pablo Santurde ESP arrived in Bahia. 'Teamwork' with Justine Mettraux/Bertrand Delesne FRA will finish the race by noon on the 4th place. Here a summary of the Class-40 race with 14 leader changes in 17 days ! Solo round the world record - François Gabart FRA - Day 19

Solo round the world record - François Gabart FRA - Day 19 789nm in 24h, ..... François Gabart FRA is again rushing at top speeds with his Maxi-Trimaran 'Macif'. However, he lost some miles on the record as his course is more northerly up in the Roaring Forties. But the front will probably push him with a solid 30-40kn wind to the longitude of Tasmania and the advantage will grow again. Waves of up to 5 meter keep Gabart very busy and he slept only 3h yesterday.
