Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 5

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 5 After the lay day, the first Final Series Gold- and Silverfleet races were on the program yesterday. Light winds challenged the drivers physically with ongoing pumping efforts. The light-weighted Chinese athletes dominated in the men's and women's fleets.
As best of the day, Ye CHN has taken the lead in the RS:X men, 3 pts ahead of Mengfan Gao CHN on 2nd. Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI is now on rank 3 with a 7 pts backlog on the leader and still chances for Gold or Silver. The big-breeze specialists however had a hard day. The two-times Olympic Champion Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED on rank 11 has to fight to make the Medal Race cut, as does Pawel Tarnowski POL (rank 12), Piotr Myszka POL (13th) or Kieran Badloe NED (14th). Today, three more races are on the program. The Medal Race will be tomorrow Saturday..
Leader change also in the RS:X women, where Jiahui Wu CHN replaced Peina Chen CHN on top, separated by 0,7 pts only. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL follows 5 pts back on rank 3.

 6mJI - World Championship 2017 - Vancouver CAN - Final results - Gold for Philipp Durr SUI Two more races were sailed on the spare day of the 6 Meter Worlds in Vancouver CAN to complete the program as scheduled with 8 races.
Philipp Durr SUI and his team won one of the races and secured the title 5 pts ahead of Ben Mumford CAN who regained the 2nd place on his home waters, as Andy Beadsworth GBR now on 3rd was penalised after a premature start. Hugo Stenbeck SUI on 4th was only 1 pt behind Bronze and 2 pts behind Silver. Among the best of the day (3/4) was also Reinhard Suhner SUI, advancing on rank 9.
In the Classics, HM Juan-Carlos de Bourbon ESP defended his lead inspite of two medium ranks, grasping the title 3 pts ahead of Peter Hoffmann USA. Bronze went to the two-times Olympic medalist Lars Grael BRA.

 TP52 - Super Series 2017 - Menorca ESP - Day 3 Two races were sailed at the TP52 Super Series on Menorca ESP yesterday. 'Quantum' of Doug Devos USA was the best of the day with the ranks 2/2, and moved up on the 3rd place overall. 'Azzurra' of the Roemers ITQ/ARG with Vasco Vascotto ITA remains on top but the advantage on the tied duo 'Platoon' (Harm Müller-Spreer GER/John Kostecki USA) and 'Quantum' has melted to one point.

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 4 Lay day in Enoshima JPN yesterday before the RS:X World Championship Final Series Gold- and Silverfleet races beginning today.
In the RS:X men, Louis Giard FRA leads with 2 pts on Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI and 4 pts on Pawel Tarnowski POL, in the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN is on top with a 1,3 pts advantage on Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL.

 6mJI - World Championship 2017 - Vancouver CAN - Day 4 The 6 Meter Worlds in Vancouver CAN continued yesterday with two races in an up to 20 kn wind.
Inspite of two 5th places, Philipp Durr SUI defended his lead in the Open Division, but his advantage on Andy Beadsworth GBR before today's last races is only 2 pts. Tied on the ranks 3 and 4 are Ben Mumford £CAN and Russ Sylvestri USA 5 pts behind the leader. With the day ranks 1 and 2, Hugo Stenbeck SUI was the best of the day moving up on rank 5 overall. His backlog on the Bronze medal is only 2 pts.
On top of the Classic Division is HM Juan Carlos de Bourbon ESP with an 8 points lead on the tied Lars Guck HKG and Lars Grael BRA. and he will most likely finish the day as World Champion.

 TP52 - Super Series 2017 - Menorca ESP - Day 2 The very light wind allowed only one race at the TP52 Super Series on Menorca ESP, and the winner was 'Bronenosec' with Vladimir Liubomirov RUS and Morgan Larson USA as tactician. Overall first remains 'Azzurra' of the Roemers' family ITA/ARG with Francesco Bruni ITA calling the shots, but Tom Langley GBR with his 'Gladiator' closed the gap on the leading Italians. Harm Müller Spreer GER (John Kostecki USA) follows with his 'Platoon' on rank 3.

 SRS - Hagneck Bank Race/La Triangulaire - BT La Neuveville Two races were organised on Lake Bienne by the BT La Neuveville. On Saturday, the Hagneck Bank Race was held with Jerôme Faller BT on his 6.5m SI as first in calculatede time among the 23 starters. In real time, the winner was Pierre Louis BT with his LSD crossing the line after 3 hrs 1 min. The ranking list.
On Sunday followed the Triangulaire. In calculated time, it was again Jerôme Faller BT finishing first, while the line honors went to Christian Biedermann with his Luthi F10. The ranking list.

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Final results - Gold for Pavlos Kontides CYP Yesterday, the second thunderstorm of the week at the Laser World Championships passing over Split CRO held the fleet on shore, destroying the gradient wind. The following light and unstable Eastwind did not allow to start racing on the final day of the event.
Pavlos Kontides CYP is therefore the new Laser World Champion. In 2012, Kontides was the first Cypriot athlete to win a an Olympic Medal. He has been training with the most successful Croate team for years and capitalized now on the experiences gained on the 'local' waters. The Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS earned Silver with 15 points' backlog. Only one point behind followed Matthew Wearn AUS on the 3rd place. Philipp Buhl GER on 4th missed a medal by 6 pts. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, leader during the whole week, finished down on the 7th position.

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2 Moderate winds prevailed on Tuesday, second day at the RS:X Windsurfer World Championship in Japan. The women sailed three, the men two races.
Louis Giard FRA remained on top of the RS:X men with the ranks 2 and 5. With the worst result discarded and the ranks 1 and 2 in his group, Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI advanced on rank 2 overall, Pawel Tarnowski POL remains on rank 3.
In the RS:X women, the Chinese women Peina Chen CHN leads with a 1,3 pts advantage on on Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Yunxiu Lu CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN follow on the ranks 3 and 4.

Winner after 3 races was Maxim Dneprov SCC in the Optimists 4 points ahead of Philipp Roth SCC. Damian Berther SCC finished 3rd among the 32 participants.  Optimist, 420, Laser Radial & 4.7 - Opti-Cup - YC Bielersee The Youth Classes sailed 5 respectively the Optimists 4 races on Lake Bienne over the past weekend. Stach Vleeshouwers RCO finished on top of the Optimists closely followed by Simon Mille CVE. Mathea Chassot BT was on rank 3, aqt the same time the best girl among the 46 participants. En Laser Radial, Chloë Fischer CVN a gagné toutes les 5 manches. En 420 et Laser 4.7, seulement un bateau par classe était présent.

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 5 The sailing conditions on the second day of the Laser Standard Worlds' Final Series were quite different with a 14-16 kn wind and big waves. The Goldfleet completed three, the Silver- and Bronzefleet two races.
After his dive from rank 1 on rank 7 the day before yesterday, Pavlos Kontides CYP came back strongly with the ranks 1/2/5 and reclaimed the first place overall 15 (!) points ahead of the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS. Another points behind is Matthew Wearn AUS on rank 3. Philipp Buhl GER on rank 4 has still an option on a medal.

Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 1

The RS:X Windsurfer World Championship 2017 began on the 2020 Olympic waters yesterday with two races per class. The overnight storm left the sea quite rough, but with 10-12 kn, the wind was down to moderate.
In the RS:X men, the interim's leader is Louis Giard FRA winning two races of his group. Makoto Tomizawa JPN follows 5 pts behind on rank 2. Only another point back are Pavel Tarnowski POL, Byron Kokkalanis GRE and Shahar Zubari ISR at equal points on the ranks 3 - 5.
In the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN won both races and leads overall 2 pts ahead of Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Hongmai Shi CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN are at equal points on rank 3.

 5o5 - Class Championship 2017 - WSC Obwalden - Final results Over the past weekend, the 5o5 Class Championship was held on Lake Alpnach with 9 races in challenging variable thermal breeze conditions. Winning 4 heats, Cédric Barth/Laurent Grop CNB finished on top 4 pts ahead of the tied Caroline + Philippe Jacot CNB and Florian Stauffer/Valery Jacot CVN. 12 teams from 3 nations participated.

 Beach-Catamaran - Yvan Bourgnon SUI in the North-West Passage - Polar bear alert ! The stormy winds of the past days forced Yvan Bourgnon on his way South along the Canadian coast to hop from bay to bay for shelter. In Qikiqtarjuaq Bay, Bourgnon had the visit of an ice bear during the night, leaning on a hull of his catamaran. A shot with the signal pistol and shouting chased the animal away. The news.

 Grand Surprise - Critérium du CN Founex - Final results The Grand Surprise sailed the full program of the Founex Critérium on Lake Geneva thanks to excellent Westwind conditions. Eight races were completed in a 8 to 18 kn breeze, and once more, ‘Little Nemo 2’ of Bernard Borter CNF was the winner 11 pts ahead of ‘Meha Una’ of Christian Haegi SNG. 14 teams participated.

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 4 The first three Final Series races, the fleets racing on Gold and Silver rounds, were held at the Laser Worlds in Split yesterday in light winds.
With the ranks 2/1/10, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA took the overall lead 2 pts ahead of Matthew Wearn AUS, and another 2 pts back the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS, best of the day (1/1/5). Pavlos Kontides CYP had a bad day with the ranks 1/dnf/26 and dropped on rank 9.

 Contender - Dutch Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 3 Rain and variable winds prevailed yesterday at the Dutch National Championships jointly held for 15 classes in Medemblik. In the Contender, the only class with Swiss participants, Winfres Westermann NED remains on top, but the best of the day(2/3) Dirk Lafleur NED reduced the backlog on 2 pts. Among the best of the day (3/5) was also Jacqueline Rüfenacht SUI, the only woman in the 25 boats' fleet, who advanced on the 12th position overall.

 Longtze - Alps Cup 2017 - Act 5 - Riva ITA - Final results Jarmo Wieland SUI was the superior winner of the 5th Act of the Longtze Annual Championship, the Alps Cup on Lake Garda.  6 Meter Class World Championship 2017, Vancouver CAN, September 15-21, Race day 1 The 2017 Six Metre World Championships got underway for 45 teams representing 11 nations that have come to compete in either the Open Division or Classic Division. Two races were completed yesterday, with Phillippe Durr (SUI) and Ben Mumford (CAN) tied for the lead of the Open Division while Peter Hofmann (USA) has a one point lead over HM Don Juan Carlos de Borbón (ESP) in the Classic Division. The winners were: RS Feva, Gäumann/Fehlmann CNM ahead of Verhoest/Verhoest CNV and Milasevic/Bonnier CNM. 420 Grognuz/Vollmer CVV replacing Vaudano/Mairate CNV on top and Rizk/Bleeker CNV on 3rd. Optimists (largest fleet with 73 boats), Alexis Pariat CNV ahead of Axel Grandjean CVV and Boris Hirsch SNG. Laser Radial, Erwan Lamoureux CNM followed by Arno Hunziker CNP at equal points ahead of Célien Muller CVV on 3rd. The Lake Geneva Championship of the Finns and Lasers Radial began yesterday off Morges with three races. Ettore Thermes CNM and Carlo Lazzari TYC are jointly on rank 1 in the Finns.  Fireball - Swiss-Cup - WSC Obwalden/SK Stansstad - Final results Inspite of the rain, a light Lake Alpnach thermal breeze showed up and 5 races were sailed in challenging conditions. Coming from behind on Sunday, Claude Mermod/Ruedi Moser RCO finally secured the victory ahead of Härdi/Landerer DSSC and Kurt Venhoda/Sonja Zaugg. The news with results.
Sailing on Lake Alpnach as well were the 5o5s with their Class Championship and the 470s. Results have not yet been available this morning.
