470 - Japan Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2

 470 - Japan Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2 Three races were held at the 470 Japan Nationals in moderate winds and the discard result was activated. Local teams are on the first three places with Tetsuya Isozaki/Akira Takayanagi JPN as first after two race wins and a second rank in their Group. The favorites and multiple Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS follow on the 4th place. Silvia Mas/Paula Barcelo ESP on the 9th position are the best 470 women team. Impressive the big number of Japanese 470s !

 Laser Radial - Men's & Women's World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Start today Back-to-back of the Laser Radial Youth Worlds, the World Championships of the Olympic Laser Radial Women's and the Radial Men are on the program. 100 women from 39 nations and 4 continents are on the entry list, among them the top favorite and Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED on her home waters. 63 participants from 26 nations and 5 continents are on the Radial men entry list.

 Laser - Euromasters 2017 - Vidy SUI - Final results Three races per fleet were completed on the final day of the Swiss Euromasters Regatta on Lake Geneva without changing the positions on the podiums.
The top rankings are in the Lasers Standard Wolfgang Gerz GER clearly ahead of Roger Schulz GER, closely followed by Robert Rönnback SUI, in the Lasers Radial Marco Casalini GER, winner of 4 of the 7 races, clearly ahead of Corinne Lavalle FRA and Jacques Perret SUI.

Windsurfing - Slalom und Formula Swiss Championship - Silvaplana - Final results

 Windsurfing - Slalom und Formula Swiss Championship - Silvaplana - Final results As already on Saturday, a Northwind was blowing down from the Julier Pass across the small Lake Silvaplana, and after the cancellation of the Jubilee Engadine Surf Marathon, the final Slalom and Formula races had to be cancelled as well.
After seven runs, Wojtek Brzozowski POL won the Formula Championship ahead of Elia Colombo SUI and Richard Stauffacher. In the women, Franziska Stauffacher SUI was first ahead of Karin Jaggi SUI. Only two Slalom heats were completed and the podiums are in the men's Sebastian Kördel GER ahead of Jordy Vonk NED and Richard Stauffacher SUI, in the women's Karin Jaggi SUI ahead of Elena De Geus NED and Franziska Stauffacher SUI.

Optimist - Annual Points' Championship 2017 - Davoser SSC - Final results

 Optimist - Annual Points' Championship 2017 - Davoser SSC - Final results Cool temperatures but good wind conditions prevailed at the Optimist Points' Championship Regatta on Lake Davos (5'000 ft above s/l). Winner after 6 races was Maxime Thommen YCZ clearly ahead of Lisa Gailland CVVT and Maxim Dneprov SCC. The best of the younger Group B was Lars Dittel BT on the 12th place overall among the 119 participants.

 Star - Grimsel-Race - Top of Grimsel -Pass - Final results After the fog dispelled, 5 more races could be sailed on Lake Death on top of the Grimsel Pass (7'100 ft), three of them won by Bernhard and Sophie Seger RCO who climbed on rank 1 overall, just one point ahead of Ben Sternberg/Joshua Revkin USA. Martin Ingold/Dario Bischof TYC followed on rank 3 among the 10 teams.

470 - Japanese Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 1

 470 - Japanese Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 1 As a tune-up to the 470 Junior World Championship taking place on the 2020 Olympic waters in Tokyo JPN on the coming weekend, the 470 Japan National Championship began yesterday. 110 teams from 25 nations, among them the double Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS are on the entry list.
One race was sailed on the opening day, the fleet split in three Groups with Daichi Takayama/Kimihiko Imamura JPN, Tetsuya Isozaki/Akira Takayanagi JPN and Lucas Calabrese/Ian Macdiarmid USA as winners. The ranking list.

Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Final results

 Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Final results Sufficient wind to complete two races prevailed on the final day of the Dragon European Championship on Lake Thoune yesterday. With the fresher breeze and the discard in effect, the ranking list changed substantially.
The new European Champions are Petro Andrade POR/ Bernardo Torres POR/Charles Nankin BRA sailing under GER flag. Dimitri Samokhin RUS, winner of the Swiss Championship a week ago, advanced on rank 2. Jewgenij Braslavets UKR and his team, sailing under UAE flag (United Arab Emirates) earned Bronze. The previous leaders Markus Brennecke/Jochen Schümann/ Ingo Borowski GER dropped on rank 5 as best Germans among the 60 teams.

 Laser - Euromasters 2017 - Vidy SUI The depression from the West on Friday evening changed the weather situation on Lake Geneva substantially and three races could be completed yesterday.
In the Lasers Standard, the former Finn World Champion Wolfgang Gerz GER defended his lead but the best of the day Roger Schulz GER joined Gerz point-wise on top. Robert Rönnback SUI is new on rank 3.
In the Radials, Marco Casalini GER extended his lead on 3 points. Corinne Lavalle FRA remains on the 2nd place. New on rank 3 is Jacques Perret SUI.

 8mJI - World Championship 2017 - Hanko NOR - Final results Fresh winds of up to 20 kn prevailed on the last day of the 8mIJ World Championship in Hankö NOR, but the podium did not change.
Avia Wilment GBR on the only (2014) boat underway was the clear winner ahead of Werner Deuring AUT, winner of the 'SIRA' rankings for yachts built before 1960. Lars Ingeberg NOR defended the 3rd place. HM King Harald of Norway (age 80) finished on the good 6th position.

 Star - Grimsel-Race - Grimsel-Pass SUI - Day 1 The weather change over Switzerland influenced obviously also the conditions on the Alps. A thick fog delayed the start of the first race, but after a while, two races could be completed, with the finish of the second one again in a thick fog.
With the ranks 1 and 3, Ben Sternberg/Joshua Revkin USA took the overall lead ahead of Roman Timm/Kaspar Huber SCMd and Bernhard Sofie Seger RCO at equal points on the ranks 2 and 3. 10 Starboats particiipate .... there is no room for more on the small Lake Death on top of the Grimsel Pass (7'100 ft a.s/l).  SRS - La Galérienne - GCN Auvernier A big fleet paricipated yesterday in the Galérienne in Auvernier/Lake Nechâtel.
In the TCF1,2 and X-rankings (14 teams), Jean-Louis Frei BT finished first with his Luthi ahead of Jacques Blanc MY on a Farr 280 and Michel Matthey on a Luthi 38'2. In the TCF3 4-rankings (14 teams), Tom Studer CVN on his Dolphin finished first ahead of André Bechler WCM on a Brenta 30. In the not measured boats (12 teams), Beat Furrer AVP on his 6mIJ finished first.

Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Final results

 Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Final results Fresh winds prevailed also on the final day of the Laser Radial Youth World Championship on the Ijssell-Meer during the last two races. With the second discard activated, the rankings changed considerably.
Gold in the Boys went to Dimitris Papadimitriou GRE with ranks 1 and 2 yesterday resulting in a 27 points advantage overall with the second discard. Matias Dietrich ARG defended rank 2 by a small margin on Nicholas Bezy HKG new on the 3rd place. Josh Armit NZL with the same number of points had to content himself with rank 4, but he earned Gold in the U17-classification. Zac Littlewood AUS and Nico Naujock GER completed the U17 podium.
Gold for Hannah Anderssohn GER in the Girls' rankings 2 points ahead of Dolores Moreira Fraschini URU and Charlotte Rose USA, best of the day with the ranks 1 and 2, up on rank 3.

 Drachen - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 4 Another day with only a light thermal breeze during a short moment, and only one race could be held. Stephan Link GER (with Frank Butzmann GER) was the winner advancing on rank 3 overall. Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) remains on top but Pedro Andrade POR reduced the gap on one point.

 Laser - Euro-Masters - Vidy SUI - Day 1 The Swiss Round of the 2017 Euromasters began yesterday on Lake Geneva in light winds and all fleets completed one race in a 5 kn breeze.
In the Lasers Standard (16 participants/3 nations), Wolfgang Gerz GER was first ahead of Yan Perret SUI and Reinhard Noack GER, the best in the Radials (10 participants/4 nations) was Marco Casalini GER. Ute Noack GER and Corinne Lavalle FRA follow on the ranks 2 and 3. The best Swiss Jacquers Perret SUI was on rank 4.

 8mJI - World Championship 2017 - Hanko NOR - Day 5 Two races were held yesterday after the lay day and both heats were won by Avia Willment GBR. She is the only participant in the category 'Modern' with a boat built in 2014. The situation in the 'Sira category' (built in 1960 or earlier), Werner Deuring AUT, second overall, remains on top, but Lars Ingeberg NOR, the Olympia medalist Terry McLaughlin CAN and HM King Harald of Noray are not far behind.

 Windsurfing - Formula Swiss Championship 2017 - Silvaplana - Day 5 The Maloja wind was only moderate yesterday but neverthess allowing to continue the Windsurf Week with the Formula as well as the Windsurf Foil Racing Swiss Championships with four heats each.
In the Formula competition, Wojtek Brozowski POL leads ahead of Elia Colombo SUI and Richard Stauffacher SUI. In the women's rankings, Franziska Stauffacher SUI is first ahead of Karin Jaggi SUI and Marion Froidevaux SUI - The ranking list.
First in the Foil-Windsurfers is Gonzalo Costa ARG ahead of Alexandre Cousin FRA. The only Swiss among the 14 participants is Balz Müller SUI on rank 13 - The ranking list.
Today, the Engadine Surf Marathon is on the program. Prominent drivers participate in the 40 Years' Jubliee event as the preview on the event website reveals.

 Star - Grimsel-Race - Grimsel-Passhöhe - Start today The always innovative Starfleet Basle opened a new saiing venue in Switzerland: the Totensee (Lake of death), a reservoir lake on top of the Grimsel pass 7100 ft above sea level. Ten teams - among them Ben Sternberg/Joshua Revking USA - fight for the Fleet Champions' title. Normally, a solid 3 to 5 bft wind is blowing, and it remains to be seen whether the weather change of yesterday evening with a cold front passing - with snow above 6500 ft, has a negative influence on the sailing conditions.

Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 5

 Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 5 Weather change in the Netherlands for the Final Series races with rain and a fresher 12 - 15 kn wind causing a number of changes in the overall rankings.
Guido Galinaro ITA, the solid leader in the Boys fleet so far finished 34th and 31st and descended on rank 3. Matias Dietrich ARG is now on top but the day's best (5/1) Yoshihiro Suzuki JPN is only one point behind. At equal points with Galinaro ITA follow Josh Armit NZL and Dimitris Papadimitriou GRE on the ranks 4 and 5.
First in the Girls is now Hannah Anderssohn GER 3 points ahead of Dolores Moreira-Fraschini URU. Julia Büsselberg GER descended on rank 3. With the ranks 1 and 2, Charlotte Rose USA moved up on rank 4.

 A-Cat - Polish National Championship 2017 - Sopot POL - Final results The Polish A-Cat Championship in Sopot POL ended yesterday with two races sailed in moderate winds. On Monday, the World Championship will begin at the same venue.
The domination of the Polish cracks during the first two days ended yesterday as Manuel Calavia ESP won both heats and earned Gold ahead fo Jakub Surowiec POL Silver and Tymoteusz Bendyk POL Bronze.

The World Championship begins on Monday and additional top sailors will join the competition such as the America's Cup winner and 8-fold A-Cat World Champion Glen Ashby AUS.

 Drachen - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 3 The difficult weather pattern over Switzerland remained also on day 3 of the Dragon European Championship. This time, the morning wind from the Alps was missing, and in the afternoon, the thermal breeze filled in light only and late, allowing to sail just one race.
Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) were the winners taking the overall lead after two races. Anatoly Loginov RUS advanced on rank 2. Pedro Andrade POR, winner of the first race, is now 3rd.

 Windsurfing - Slalom Swiss Championship 2017 - Silvaplana SUI - Day 1 After two days waiting for sufficient winds, a well-established Maloja wind provided for good sailing conditions on Lake Silvaplana and two runs were completed at the Slalom Swiss Championship. The favorite Sebastian Kördel GER and Jordy Vonk NED have jointly taken the lead with the ranks 1 and 2 each. On rank 3 follows Alexandre Cousin FRA. The best Swiss Richard Stauffacher SUI is on rank 4. First in the women is Karin Jaggi SUI.

 Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 4 The Qualification Series at the Laser Radial Worlds on the Ijsselmeer were concluded yesterday with three races per fleet sailed in sun an moderate winds from 8 to 12 kn.
Guido Gallinaro ITA keeps on dominating the men's fleet winning 6 of the 7 races sailed so far in his Group and his advantage on Matias Dietrich ARG is now 16 points. Only one point further behind follows Grégoire Peverelli SUI (ranks 1/2 yesterday).
In the women's fleet, Julia Büsselberg GER is on top one point ahead of Hannah Anderssohn GER. The Olympian Dolores Moreira URU follows on rank 3 with a 4 points' backlog.

 A-Cat - Polish National Championship 2017 - Sopot POL - Day 2 Only one race could be sailed yesterday in light winds and Tymoteusz Cierzan POL was the winner moving up on rank 7 overall. Jakub Surowiec POL stayed on rank 1 ahead of Jacek Noetzel POL new on rank 2. Bob Baier GER finished 2nd yesterday and advanced on the 4th place as best non Polish. The defending World Champion Mischa Heemskerk NED follows on rank 6.

 Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 2 The Lake Thoune afternoon thermal breeze did not fill in yesterday as well and only one race could be completed in a moderate down-valley wind in the morning. Going on the right side in the first upwind decided the race in favour of Pedro Andrade POR and his team. Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) followed on rank 2. Igor Goikhberg RUS finished 3rd. The best Swiss was Garlef Baum SUI on his local waters on rank 8.

 Victor Kovalenko UKR/AUS - Mr. Medal Maker - the Biography Victor Kovalenko became famous as the Ukrainian 470 coach. He left his country to become coach of the Swiss 470s in the years 1995/96 before he went to Australia as Coach and Director of the most successful Australian Sailing Team. His athletes earned in total 10 Olympic Medals and 17 World Champions' titles. Now, his biography has been published telling about his almost 40 years of professional coaching and unveiling his philosophy. Very interesting to read this book !
