Olympic Classes, Laser 4.7 - Carnival Trophy - Cadiz ESP - Day 3

 Olympic Classes, Laser 4.7 - Carnival Trophy - Cadiz ESP - Day 3 All classes sailed three races each in light winds.
After a modest first day, Maud Jayet SUI won all three heats in her Group yesterday and moved up on rank 2 of the Open Lasers Radial, only one point behind Emma Plasschaert BEL. Leandre Garcia ESP, the best man, follows on rank 3, the Olympia medalists Evi Van Acker BEL and Alison Young GBR are on the ranks 4 and 5.
Ivan Pastor ESP won 4 of the 5 races in the RS:X men windsurfers so far. Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI advanced on rank 2 with a 7 points' backlog on the leader. Stefania Elfutina RUS defended her first place in the RS:X women windsurfers ahead of Emma Wilson GBR.
Only one race could be completed in the Finn, where Deniss Karpak EST is the overall leader ahead of Alicar Kaynar TUR and Raffael Trujillo ESP.

 18-Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Race 3 The 22 teams at the inofficial 18-Footer Worlds resumed racing today after the lay day of Monday in light winds with the 3rd heat. At press time (6 a.m UTC), the race was still underway with 'Yamaha', the winner of the first two races, in difficulties on rank 14 after the first upwind. Here the link to the livestream.  Farr 30 - Sailing Arabia - The Tour 2017 - Dubai UAE - Day 13 The Arabia Sailing Tour is in its final phase with all five legs completed. Yesterday, the 8 teams finished the final race from Doha to Dubai, are enjoying a lay day today, and will conclude the competition tomorrow with the final InPort races.
Winning leg 5, 'El Moudj Muscat' with Christian Pontieu FRA are now only 2 points behind 'EFG Bank Monaco' with Mathieu Richard FRA and the crucial decisions will be made in the InPort races on Wednesday.

GC32-Catamaran - Class Championship 2017 - Muscat OMN - Start today

 GC32-Catamaran - Class Championship 2017 - Muscat OMN - Start today The 2017 season of the foiling GC32 catamarans begins today in Oman with the inaugural Class Championship gathering the majority of participants of the Extreme Sailing Series and the GC32 Racing Tour. 11 GC3s will start today, the biggest fleet united so far. Back-to-back will follow the first Act of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series at the same venue.
The Practice Race yesterday, sailed in light winds, was won by 'Alinghi'. Racing can be followed beginning at 9 a.m. UTC on the event website.

 Olympic Classes, Laser 4.7 - Carnival Trophy - Cadiz ESP - Day 2 Part of the Olympic Classes are busy with the Cadiz Carneval Trophy in the South of Spain. The Lasers have quite a good fleet racing. In the Lasers Standard (26 boats/8 nations), Rui Silveira POR is leading ahead of Filip Ciszkiewicz POL. With 114 participants from 10 nations, the Lasers Radial Open are the biggest fleet. Emma Plaeschart BEL is on top of the interim's rankings ahead of Roberto Bermudez de Castro ESP. In the RS:X men windsurfers, Ivan Pastor ESP is first at equal points wiht Pavel Tarnowski POL. Stefania Elfutina RUS is on top of the RS:X women windsurfers.

World Sailing - Youth Sailing World Championship 2017 in China

World Sailing announcef that Sanya, China will host the 2017 edition of the Youth Sailing World Championships on the waters off Hainan Island from 09-16 December 2017. The 2017 selection process opened in November 2016 after the Israeli Sailing Association exercised the right to withdraw from hosting the 2017 edition as a final contract had not been concluded.  IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 112 The arrival of Conrad Coleman NZL in Les Sables two days ago was much more as a normal finish and caused not only a stir because of his perstistence to finish the race under jury rig achieving speeds of up to 7 kn, but also as being the first to round the world on renewable energies only. The clear leader in the overall rankings before the last race from Doha to Dubai today is 'EFG Bank Monaco'. The start to this final leg will be given in a few minutes this morning.  IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 111 It was not to avoid ! Conrad Coleman NZL sailing under jury rig could not defend his 15th place and had to let pass Romain Attanasio FRA more than twice as fast. After 110 days underway, the French finished 4 hours before the herioc Colman. Now, only Pieter Heerema NED, ETA probably next Thurday, and Sébastien Destremau FRA are the only ones still racing. The Frenchman is sailing in the northern trade winds and will arrive in Les Sables around March 10.

 18 Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Race 1 The JJ Giltinan-Trophy, the inofficial 18-Footer World Championship 2017, began yesterday with the Invitational Race. Very light winds prevailed and the race had to be abandoned after one round.
'Asko Appliances' with Marcus Ashley-Jones AUS and the multiple JJ Giltinan winner Seve Jarvin AUS as crew crossed the finish line with a considerable 4 minutes' advantage over 'Smeg' (Lee Knapton AUS). Rank 3 of the USA 'Harken' (Howie Hamlin USA) and rank 4 of NZL 'Yahama' (David McDiarmid NZL) were a wake-up call for the experienced Sydney Harbour teams. The outcome of the Giltinan is open as never for a long time ! The news, the ranking list and the full-length video (1 hr 23 min).
This Saturday morning UTC, leg 1 of the Giltinan just finished was held in light winds and rain. 'Yahama' with David McDiarmid NZL won ahead of 'Coopers Rag & Famish' and 'Thurlow Fisher Lawyers' with Michael Coxon AUS. The 2 hours' video.  IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 110 - Duel on the finish line Didac Costa ESP arrived yesterday morning in Les Sables d'Olonne FRA. The event website informs with all reports, interviews and videos. Today, two more Vendée Globe finishers are expected, a duel with unequal arms: Conrad Coleman NZL still on rank 15 under jury rig and rear winds sails now at speeds around 8 kn. This morning UTC, the arrival was 68 nm away. Romain Attanasio FRA 70 nm behind the Kiwi, is progressing almost twice as fast and the final outcome might well be decided this afternoo on the last miles only.

 Farr 30 - Sailing Arabia - The Tour 2017 - Muscat OMN - Day 8 Yesterday, leg 4 of the Arabian Sailing Tour - split in two semi-legs due to the unplanned interruption - was concluded yesterday. 'EFG Bank Monaco' with Mathieu Richard FRA finished 1st, 'Al Moudj Muscat' with Christian Ponthieu FRA 2nd, the teams on rank 1 and 2 in the overall rankings as well. Unfortuntely, the event website does not yet display rankings nor news. Tomorrow Saturday, a number of InPort-Races are on the program.
