The fresh 25 kn+ seabreeze blowing on the first three days was gone after the lay day of Wednesday, and the Olympic RS:X windsurfers had to continue the European Championship in a 12 kn breeze yesterday. The light-wind specialists have now the stage set to climb up the rankings, especially if the conditions stay that way in the coming days. In the men's fleet, the allrounder Piotr Myszka POL extended his lead on 11 points with Byron Kokkalanis GRE 2nd and new, Ivan Pastor ESP 3rd and Pierre Le Coq FRA 4th. Difficulties for Richard Stauffacher SUI, dropping on rank 14.
Zofia Klepacka POL has now a 20 points' lead in the women's fleet, ahead of Lee-el Korzits ISR who apparently had difficulties in the light wind, contrary to Laura Linares ITA climbing on rank 3 as second-best of the day. The dominant winner of the day was Marina Alabau ESP with two first places, but having missed one day being ill, she is way behind overall. The official report.
A Polish festival are the Youth Europeans with Pavel Tarnowski POL, boys, and Kamila Smektala POL, girls, defending their leads. 5 of the 6 podiumns places in the two fleet are Polish, and only Louis Giard FRA as 2nd in the boys is still in the title, or at least, medal race. The report of the day.
