Olympic Worldcup 2012 Semaine Olympique Française Hyeres FRA Day 5
Perfect sailing conditions yesterday with sun, a 25 kn breeze and big waves, a dream day for the 650 participants at the SOF in the Bay of Hyères. However, for some classes ist was too much. The Paralympic 2.4mR and Skud 18 as well as the 49ers had to stay ahore. Some final decisions are already made on the penultimate day: With a 26 points lead, Lisa Westerhof/Lobke Berkhout NED cannot be passed in today's Medal Race of the 470 women. Lecointre/Geron FRA, Kondo/Tabata JPN and Clarke/Lihan USA will fight for the remaining two medals. 18 points is the advance of Matthews Belcher/Malcom Page AUS in the 470 men and they are practically on the safe side as well. The ranks 2 to 5 however are separated by 4 points only, i.e. two places in the double-points Medal Race. In the 49er, Dyen/Christidis FRA are one point ahead of Outteridge/Jensen AUS. Rafael Trujillo ESP is now two points ahead on Deniss Karpak EST in the Finns. Brendan Casey AUS moved up on rank 3 with a race win yesterday. Percy/Simpson GBR remain ahead inspite of the dismasting in the Starboote. Lööf/Salminen SWE and Clarke/Bjorn CAN follow tied four points behind on the rank two. The Woman-Match-Race is in delay. The Round Robin will be terminated today only, and the semi-finals and finals will follow immediately. Anna Tunnicliffe USA leads now with a smashing 14-0 score ! Piotr Myszka POL in the RS:X-men and Maja Dziarnowska POL in the RS:X-women lead the windsurfing fleets in today's Medal Races, that will be sailed in a fresh Easterly breeze again.
