Olympic Games 2012 - Weymouth GBR - Day 11

Wednesday, August 8, 2012
Today, the Medal Race of the 49ers is on the program with the top two seats on the podium are already taken by Nathan Outteridge/Ian Jensen AUS Gold and Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL Silver. Only the Bronze Medal is at stake with six teams withing 12 points. Norregard/Lang DEN 3rd are on the pole position, but Lehtinen/Bask FIN, Morrison/Rhodes GBR, Dyen/Christidis FRA, Delle-Karth/Resch AUT and Freitas/De Andrade POR will not hesitate to fully attack. An exciting situation to be followed as from 13 hrs UCT this afternoon. The 470 women sail their last two qualification races with the clearly leading trio Aleh/Powrie NZL, Mills/Clarke GBR and Westerhof/Berkhout NED. Will there be other teams succeeding to close the gap? The wind forecast is on lighter winds, possibly favoring other teams. In the Women Match Race, the Quarter Finals continue today. The most important surprise up to now is the the bad start of the favorite Anna Tunnicliffe USA in der Best-of-Five-Serie against Silja Lehtinen FIN being down 0-2 after two heats. The US Sailing Team has no medals up to now, and Anna is their last hope. We shall again cover the event live as from 13 hrs on our News Ticker.
