Decision 35 Vulcain Trophy 2012 Trophee Ambassadeurs SN Geneve Day 1
The Decision 35 catamaran circuit, the Vulcain Trophy 2012, began yesterday with the first event, the Trophée Ambassadeurs, organised by the SN Geneva. The nine teams sailed four races, initially in a light north-easterly breeze, during the later afternoon shifting to a fresh west wind exceeding 20 kn. 'Realstone', the team of the Geneva Centre d'Entraînement à la régate CER with Jerôme Clerc SUI steering took the overall lead with two race wins, followed by 'Alinghi' with Ernesto Bertarelli SUI and 'Ladycat' with Dona Bertarelli SUI (with Yann Guichard FRA as tactician) on the ranks 2 and 3. Among the participants also the America's Cup Challenger of Records 'Artemis' with Torbjörn Tornquist SWE and Paul Cayard USA, 'with little "rust" from not having sailed competitively in the boat for six months'. Above all, sailing upwind on starboard tack in the last race, the day ended by colliding with 'Zen Too' (with Fred Le Peutrec FRA, skipper of AC 'China Team'), but the cats are back at the SNG for a repair over night. See Paul Cayard's report, the official report and the results.
