Big Boat Racing Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup Costa Smeralda ITA Thunderstorm delayed Coastal Race
At first, racing had to be abandoned to avoid a clash with an unannounced thunderstorm on Day 3 of the 2010 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. See the official report. The coastal race got under way once more afterwards and turned into a party in a 20-knot westerly. ‘Bella Mente’ (Hap Fauth) USA came out on top in the Mini Maxi Worlds to move up to fourth overall, 10 points behind class leader ‘Allegre’ GBR. ‘Esimit Europa 2’ (Igor Simcic) SLO claimed the lead in the Maxis, with a win yesterday, followed by ‘Highland Fling’ MON. There’s a new name in the winner’s circle in the Wally class with ‘Gibian’ GBR, while Hasso Plattner’s ‘Visione’ GER won the race in the Supermaxis to lead the class. Nothing new in the J-Class, with ‘Ranger’ CAY continuing to sail circles around the venerable ‘Velsheda’ GBR. Today is a layday before the Mini Maxis and Wallys continue their series with another coastal race on Friday and some windward-leeward races on Saturday. Maxis and Supermaxis have two more coastal races on the menu.
