Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 Leg 1 Day 3
After the fulminant start of the Volvo Ocean Race, the four teams still in the race have now reached a zone with light but very unconstant wind along the African coast. 'Groupama' with Franck Cammas FRA and 'Camper' with Chris Nicholson NZL try their luck going down South near the coast whereas 'Puma' (Ken Read USA) and 'Telefonica' (Iker Martinez ESP) opt for a Western route hoping to find an incoming depression. At the positioning this morning, 'Groupama' was leading but the fleet, progressing at 4 to 7 kn, is separated by 12 miles only. The report.
For 'Team Sanya' with Mike Sanderson NZL leg one is over. The Chinese team has officially abanonded the first part of the race and tries now to repair the boat and bring it to Capetown to the start of leg 2 in time. The report.
Ian Walker GBR and his 'Abu Dhabi'-Team however will hopefully be ready to restart next Thursday with a new mast. See more details. The videos of the day and the race-viewer.
