Today is the start to leg two of the Class 40 Global Ocean Race for two-person teams off Cape Town. Contrary to the Volvo Ocean Race going this time North to the Gulf of Arabia, the Class 40s take the traditional route crossing the Southern Ocean in the Roaring Forties direction New Zealand. Considering the important drift ice zones South of the 42nd parallel, the Race organisers have set a limit at this latitude. The first leg was marked by a close duel between Ross & Campbell Field NZL and Miranda Merron/Halvard Mabire FRA until the finish. The report.
