J/70 - World Championship 2016 - San Francisco CA, USA - Day 4

 J/70 - World Championship 2016 - San Francisco CA, USA - Day 4 Three races were held yesterday at the J/70 Worlds on the Frisco Bay Berkeley Circle with a 10-12 kn osculating wind and varying currents in the first two races, increasing on 16 kn for race 3.
The leading European Champion Claudia Rossi ITA suffered a blackflag disqualification dropping on the 5th place overall. Joel Running USA (with John Kostecki USA) is the new leader 20 points ahead of the defending champion Julian Fernandez MEX (with Bill Hardesty USA). On rank 3 follows Carlo Alberini ITA.

 Melges 32 - World Championship 2016 - Newport RI, USA - Day 2 A fresh Northeast wind prevailed also on the scecond day of the Melges 32 World Championship in Newport R.I. and it was rainy as well. Ryan Devos USA (tactics Mark Mendelblatt USA) won 2 of the 3 races taking the overall lead 4 points ahead of Jason Carroll USA (with Cameron Appleton NZL). Rick Devos USA (with Jonathan McKee USA) is on 3rd. Christian Schwoerer GER (with Karol Jablonski POL), first after day one, dropped on the 6th place.

 Finn - International Finn Cup 2016 - Malcesine ITA - Day 1 The traditional International Finn Regatta on Lake Garda began yesterday with three races. The superior Enrico Voltolini ITA won all three, but was disqualified in one of them and is therefore only on the 8th place overall. Tobias Kirschbaum NED, ranks 5/1/6, is the first leader one point ahead of Vladimir Krutskikh RUS and Michael Maier CZE at equal points. 34 participants from 6 nations are on the entry list.

 Finn - German Championship 2016 - Seebruck GER - Day 3 For three days, the German Finn Championship has been underway on Lake Chiem GER, but the wind was mostly absent. Nevertheless, two races have been completefd and Philipp Kasüske GER with a 3rd place finish leads in the overall rankings thanks to a redress granted. Max Kohlhoff GER and Peter Kilchenmann SUI are the first challengers. 91 participants from 5 nations.

 Windsurfing - PWA World Tour 2016 - Wave, Freestyle, Slalom - Sylt GER - Day 1 Good conditions prevailed on the first day of the PWA Final on Sylt GER. The Men and Women Wave Specialists opened the event finishing the first Single Elimination. Once more, the Moreno ESP sisters met in the final with Iballa Morena ESP having the upper hand on Daida. Winner in the Men's category was Alex Mussolini ESP defeating Thomas Traversa FRA. All details on the PWA website.

IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St.Tropez - Day 5

 IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St.Tropez - Day 5 A little bit more wind - 12-15 kn - as on the previous days prevailed yesterday in St-Tropez FRA and all classes had their races according to program.
In the IRC-A rankings, the Volvo 70 'S' with Lionel Pean FRA won the race of the day and advanced on rank 2, as 'Rambler' with George David USA was penalised after a premature start. 'Leopard' off Michael Slade GBR remains on top of the classification, but 'S' joined her on points. Two times 'Music' on top of the IRC-B rankings with James Blackmore GBR and Alba Batzill SUI/GER sharing the lead. In the IRC-C rankings, the day's winner Jean-Jacques Chaubard SUI reduced the backlog on Vadim Yakimenko ITA on one point. The 15mJI have completed already 8 races and 'Mariska' (Baujahr 1908) with Christian Niels GBR is the premature overall winner. Leader change in the Wallys where the 107-foot 'Open Season' replaced 'Magic Carpet' on top with two race wins.

 Dolphin - Schweizermeisterschaft 2016 - RC Oberhofen - Day 1 Sun and a light autumn breeze prevailed on Lake Thoune yesterday where the first two races of the Dolphin Swiss Championship were sailed. The local RCO teams controlled the day with Rico Gregorini RCO (4/1), Alain Stettler RCO (1/4) and Stefan Seger RCO (2/3) on top of the rankings. The co-favorite Tom Studer CVN follows on the 4th position. 17 Teams participate.

 Modell-Segeln - Marblehead World Championship 2016 - Limone ITA - Final results The Marblehead World Championship on Lake Garda ended yesterday with two races. Brad Gibson GBR dominated the day again with the ranks 1 and 2 and defended his World's title with a 39 points' lead on Matteo Longhi ITA. Graham Brandock GBR replaced Marc Pomarede FRA on the podium now 4th one point behind. 68 participants from 14 nations.

 Match Racing - University World Championship - Perth AUS - Final results The University Matchracing World Championship on the Swan-River in Perth / Western Australia was concluded yesterday with the finals. Surprisingly, Alexa Bezel SUI and her team, undefeated during the whole competition, lost the final against Team Parker AUS. The Australian duel in the Men's category between Team Dragaville AUS and Team Boulden AUS went in favour of Dragaville.

 J/70 - World Championship 2016 - San Francisco CA, USA - Day 3 The initial light 6-10 kn wind freshened to over 20 kn during the J/70 Worlds races on Frisco Bay yesterday. After 7 races and a discarded result, some changes happened on top of the rankings. The European Champion Claudia Rossi ITA and her team are new on the first place 2 points ahead of Joel Ronning USA (tactics John Kostecki USA) on rank 2. Jud Smith USA (with Ed Wrigth GBR) remains on rank 3.

 Melges 32 - World Championship 2016 - Newport RI, USA - Day 1 The Melges 32 World Championship began yesterday in Newport R.I. with a fresh 23 kn wind. At the end of the second race, the breeze was up to 30 kn and the PRO decided to cancel the 3rd race. With the ranks 5 and 1, Christian Schwoerer GER (tactics Karol Jablonski POL) has taken the overall lead at equal points with Alessandro Rombelli ITA (Terry Hutchinson USA) on 2nd. Only one point behind follows Jason Carrol USA (with Cameron Appleton NZL).

 IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St.Tropez - Day 4 Layday yesterday was not for all. The 100-years plus yachts sailed for the Gstaad YC Centenary Trophy and 19 teams participated. The New York 50 'Spartan', built in 1912, was the winner. The 15mJI continued racing as well, and with another two race wins, 'Mariska', probable winner in St-Tropez, will also be first in the overall annual rankings. In addition, a number of one-on-one challenges took place.

Finishing 1/1/4, the defending champion Brad Gibson GBR extended the lead and will most probably finish this evening as Champion again.  Match Racing - University World Championship - Perth AUS - Day 4 Yesterday, the Quarter and Semi Finals were completed in Perth Southern Australia, and today the crucial races will take place. In the Women's, Alexa Bezel SUI will meet team Koh SIN, and the Swiss, the most experienced matchracer among the 6 teams with nothing but bullets up to now, will hardly be defeated. In the Men's category, two Australian teams will fight for the title: Team Boulden AUS and Team Dragaville AUS. The results.  IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St.Tropez - Day 3 Sun and a moderate Southwind allowed all classes to sail one race.
In the IRC-A classification, the two Super-Maxis 'Rambler' and 'Leopard' share now the first place. Also tied is the lead in the IRC-B classification with Bernard Coquelet FRA and James Blackmore SUI. In der IRC-C classification Vadim Yakimenko ITA is first 2 points ahead of Jean-Jacques Chaubard SUI. All ranking lists and the daily report.
Today is lay day, and by tradition, individual challenges take place. In addition, the Gstaad YC (SUI) Centenary-Trophy for 100-years-plus yachts is on the program. Among the 21 museum's pieces is the English 'Eva' (1906) (photo) with Pete Townshend GBR, the guitarist of 'The Who' aboard.

 Match Racing - World University Championship 2016 - Perth AUS - Day 3 The Students' Matchracing World Championship 2016 is underway on the Swan River in Perth/Western Australia. Two Round Robins have been sailed so far. First in the men's category is the team Boulden AUS with 16-0 ahead of team Galati ITA 13-3 and team Dargaville AUS 11-5. IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St-Tropez - Day 2

Light winds prevailed on the second day of the Voiles de St.Tropez, too light for the 'Modernes' split in 5 IRC-categories sailing on offshore courses. They returned to the harbour without valid races. On St-Tropez Bay however, there was a light thermal breeze just right for the 120 'Classiques' ('Marigold', the oldest, was built in 1892), and all classes completed one race each. The Wallys too sailed a race along the Pamplonne Beach.

 Tornado, Dart 18 - Tornado-Trophy/Alpencup - Torbole ITA - Final results Lake Garda conditions at its best during the catamaran weekend and the Tornados and Darts sailed 9 races each. Swiss was the victory with Martin Rusterholz/Michael Gloor SUI in the Tornados (14 teams, 4 nations) 13 points ahead of Bob Baier/Frank Stuhr GER. In the Darts 18 (24 teams, 5 nations), Mathias Huber/Jonathan List GER finished first 5 points ahead of Michiel Fehr/Andri Fried SUI. The event website.

 IRC, Classic Yachts, Wally - Les Voiles de St.Tropez - Day 1 Voiles de St.Tropez began yesterday in sunshine and a light Eastwind with 180 'Modernes', split in IRC categories A to C, as well as the Wally's and 15mJI.
First with IRC-A fleet of the Super-Maxis was the GBR 'Leopard' of Michael Slade GBR ahead of the USA 'Rambler' of George David USA and the GBR 'Velsheda' of Barnaby Henshaw GBR. In the Wallys, 'Magic Carpet 3' (100 foot) finished first ahead of the new GBR 'Open Season' (107 foot).

 Interboot - Friedrichshafen GER - successful in every respect A large number of watersports' enthusiasts visited to INTERBOOT in Friederichshafen/Lake Constance GER on the second weekend as well. More floor space, more boats to see, more entertaining activities and ..... more business for the exhibitors. The 55th INTERBOOT was a success ! 90'500 tickets were sold (2015: 90'700) during the past 9 days. 471 exhibitors from 17 nations presented novelties, products and services of all kind of watersports.

Matchracing - WMRT Cape Crow Cup

 Matchracing - WMRT Cape Crow Cup The Cape Crow Cup, qualifier event for the World Match Race Tour, was concluded yester off the island of Öckerö SWE in a strong 15-20 kn SW breeze and strong currents.
David Gilmour AUS and Nicklas Dackhammar SWE won their Semi Finals in some fantastic matches with 2-0 and ensuring their invitations to the second World Championship stage of the WMRT 2016/2017 season. Gilmour AUS defeated Dackhammar in the Final with a 2-1 score. The Petite Final went in favour of Torvald Mirsky AUS defeating Hans Wallén SWE 2-0, securing the last podium place.
