 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Final results - Gold for Pavlos Kontides CYP, Barnard and Buckingham USA 13th and 15th The second thunderstorm of the week at the Laser World Championships passing over Split CRO held the fleet on shore, destroying the gradient wind. The following light and unstable Eastwind did not allow to start racing on the final day of the event.
Pavlos Kontides CYP is therefore the new Laser World Champion. In 2012, Kontides was the first Cypriot athlete to win a an Olympic Medal. He has been training with the most successful Croate team for years and capitalized now on the experiences gained on the 'local' waters. The Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS earned Silver with 15 points' backlog. Only one point behind followed Matthew Wearn AUS on the 3rd place. Philipp Buhl GER on 4th missed a medal by 6 pts. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, leader during the whole week, finished down on the 7th position. Chris Barnard USA is 13th, Charlie Buckingham USA 15th.

Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2

 Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 2 Moderate winds prevailed on Tuesday, second day at the RS:X Windsurfer World Championship in Japan. The women sailed three, the men two races.
Louis Giard FRA remained on top of the RS:X men with the ranks 2 and 5. With the worst result discarded and the ranks 1 and 2 in his group, Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI advanced on rank 2 overall, Pawel Tarnowski POL remains on rank 3.
In the RS:X women, the Chinese women Peina Chen CHN leads with a 1,3 pts advantage on on Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Yunxiu Lu CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN follow on the ranks 3 and 4.

Before the last race day, Phillippe Durr SUI leads the Open Division by 3 pts over Andy Beadsworth GBR, while HM Don Juan Carlos de Borbón (ESP) leads the Classic Division by 4 pts ahead of Peter Hofmann USA.

 6mJI - World Championship 2017 - Vancouver CAN - Day 3 A complicated, challenging weather situation allowed just one race being sailed on the opening day of the Menorca TP52 Super Series Sailing Week, the crucial final event of the annual championship. The circuit leader 'Azzurra' (Roemers family ARG/ITA) finished first ahead of 'Gladiator' and 'Sled'. and sees them open their overall margin to 8 pts on 'Platoon' (Harm Müller-Spreer GER) and 10 pts on 'Quantum Racing' (Doug DeVos USA).

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 5, Barnard and Buckingham USA 13th and 15th The sailing conditions on the second day of the Laser Standard Worlds' Final Series were quite different with a 14-16 kn wind and big waves. The Goldfleet completed three, the Silver- and Bronzefleet two races.
After his dive from rank 1 on rank 7 the day before yesterday, Pavlos Kontides CYP came back strongly with the ranks 1/2/5 and reclaimed the first place overall 15 (!) points ahead of the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS. Another points behind is Matthew Wearn AUS on rank 3. Philipp Buhl GER on rank 4 has still an option on a medal. Chris Barnard USA and Charlie Buckingham USA 2 pts behind are on the rank 13 and 15.

Windsurfing - RS:X World Championship 2017 - Enoshima JPN - Day 1 with NorAm participants

The RS:X Windsurfer World Championship 2017 began on the 2020 Olympic waters yesterday with two races per class. The overnight storm left the sea quite rough, but with 10-12 kn, the wind was down to moderate.
In the RS:X men, the interim's leader is Louis Giard FRA winning two races of his group. Makoto Tomizawa JPN follows 5 pts behind on rank 2. Only another point back are Pavel Tarnowski POL, Byron Kokkalanis GRE and Shahar Zubari ISR at equal points on the ranks 3 - 5. Juan Bosco Barba MEX is 29th, Gabriel Verrier-Paquette CAN is 73rd. No USA drivers.
In the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN won both races and leads overall 2 pts ahead of Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL. Hongmai Shi CHN and Jiahui Wu CHN are at equal points on rank 3. Farrah Hall USA is 33rd.

Philipp Dürr SUI took the sole lead in the Moderns with two second race ranks. New on 2nd overall 3 pts behind is Andy Beadsworth GBR. Brian Mumford CAN is now 3rd. Twice on the 3rd place,
HM Don Juan Carlos de Borbón is now first in the Classic Division, 4 pts ahead of Peter Hofmann USA

 Beach-Catamaran - Yvan Bourgnon SUI in the North-West Passage - Polar bear alert ! The stormy winds of the past days forced Yvan Bourgnon on his way South along the Canadian coast to hop from bay to bay for shelter. In Qikiqtarjuaq Bay, Bourgnon had the visit of an ice bear during the night, leaning on a hull of his catamaran. A shot with the signal pistol and shouting chased the animal away. The news.

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 4, Chris Barnard USA 22nd The first three Final Series races, the fleets racing on Gold and Silver rounds, were held at the Laser Worlds in Split yesterday in light winds.
With the ranks 2/1/10, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA took the overall lead 2 pts ahead of Matthew Wearn AUS, and another 2 pts back the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS, best of the day (1/1/5). Pavlos Kontides CYP had a bad day with the ranks 1/dnf/26 and dropped on rank 9. Chris Barnard USA is 22nd.

 6 Meter Class World Championship 2017, Vancouver CAN, September 15-21, Race day 1, Peter Hofmann USA leads in Classic Division The 2017 Six Metre World Championships got underway for 45 teams representing 11 nations that have come to compete in either the Open Division or Classic Division. Two races were completed yesterday, with Phillippe Durr (SUI) and Ben Mumford (CAN) tied for the lead of the Open Division while Peter Hofmann (USA) has a one point lead over HM Don Juan Carlos de Borbón (ESP) in the Classic Division.  J/70  - World Championship 2017 - Porto Cervo ITA - Final results, Duncan USA World Champion, Keane USA 2nd Fresh winds around 25 kn made the final day at the J/70 World Championship spectacular. Here the video. Peter Duncan USA and his team were again the team of the day with the ranks 1 and 3, and were crowned World Champions with a 15 points lead on Brian Keane USA. Luca Domenici ITA moved up on rank 3 on the last day.

 Longtze - Alps Cup 2017 - Act 5 - Riva ITA - Day 2 After the two races sailed on the opening day in a slackening Northwind, the sun was out yesterday and four races were completed in a 20-25 kn Ora. On top of the rankings, the positions seem to be taken. Jarmo Wieland SYH won all 4 heats and is clearly on rank 1 ahead of Michael Bergher GER, who is just one point in front of Markus Ziltener SUI.

GC32-Catamaran - Racing Tour 2017 - Calvi FRA - Final results

 GC32-Catamaran - Racing Tour 2017 - Calvi FRA - Final results A 20 kn breeze prevailed also on the last day of the GC32 Racing Tour Act 4 in Corsica FRA. After the last Speed-Contest run - winner - 'Argo' of Jason Caroll USA reaching 21,25 kn - five more races were held. Bad luck for the clearly leading 'Malizia' of Pierre Cashiragi MON, caught at a mark in the 3rd race damaging the rudder forcing her to abandon the competition prematurely. This opened the way to an overall victory for 'Realteam' with Jerôme Clerc SUI, defeating 'Argo' in a close fight by a two points' margin. Two points is the lead off the Swiss also in the overall tour rankings.The final Round of the Tour will be held in October in Marseille FRA.

 Laser Standard - World Championship 2017 - Split CRO - Day 2, Barnard USA 22nd The 147 participants at the Laser Worlds had to wait for wind until 15 hrs p.m. UTC to start to the only race of the day in light winds with Pavlos Kontides CYP - winner of all three heats of his Group so far -, Matthew Wearn AUS and Eliott Hanson GBR on rank 1. In the overall rankings, Kontides CYP leads with a 4 points' advance on Sam Meech NZL. Sergey Komissarov RUS is new on rank 3, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA is now 4th. Chris Barnard USA advanced on the 22nd position with a 2nd race rank in his Group. Robert Davis CAN is 62nd.

 J/70  - World Championship 2017 - Porto Cervo ITA - Day 4, Duncan USA leads The J/70 Championship in Porto Cervo continued yesterday with the fleet split in Gold- and Silver Rounds. Initially, the Mistral - around 20 kn - stayed on, but during the second race in the afternoon, a light Southwind filled in and the heat had to be abandoned.
Winner in the Goldfleet was Peter Cunningham CAY followed by Peter Duncan USA, who extended his overall lead on 10 points. New on rank 2 is Gustavo Martinez ESP, Claudia Rossi ITA descended on rank 3.

 GC32-Catamaran - Racing Tour 2017 - Calvi FRA - Day 3, Carroll USA 3rd The fresh Mistral delayed the first starts yesterday and only late in the afternoon, two short races and the Speed-Challenge could be held. In a 10 kn wind, the fastest cat was 'Realteam' with an 18,32 kn chrono. Winner of the two races were '.film racing' of Simon Delzoppo AUS (tactics Leigh McMillan GBR) and 'Malizia', steered by the owner Pierre Cashiragi MON (tactics now Sébastien Col FRA). 'Malizia' is the overall leader 14 points ahead of 'Realteam' with Jerôme Clerc SUI on 2nd, who recovered from the bad Thursday with the ranks 2 and 3 yesterday. Downers for 'Argo' of Jason Carroll USA with the ranks 5 and 6, relegating them on rank 3 overall. Today, last day of the event, more short races are on the program.
