Star World Championship 2012 Hyeres FRA Day 5, racing resumes after the layday
There was the layday at the Worlds in Hyères yesterday for the 72 Starboats from 32 nations. Up to now, four races were sailed in very different sailing conditions. For the last two races today and tomorrow, light winds and summery temperatures have been announced. The narrow points' gaps between the top-ranked boats as well as the fight for the last four Olympic berths guarantees races full of suspense. Thanks to the positive outcome of a protest for redress after a collision, Echevarri/Rodriguez ESP are again back in the race for the quota places. Hestbaek/Oleson DEN, Pepper/Turner NZL and the Spanish are now even, Arapov/Mikulicic CRO follow 8 points behind. With Spitzauer/Habermüller AUT, 2 points behind the Croates, and Papathanassiou/Tsotras GRE moving up considerably when the discard becomes effective after race 5, two more nations will fight for the Olympic ticket. Lucky the North-Americans Mendelblatt/Fatih USA 19th and Clarke/Björn CAN) 21st already qualified for the 2012 Olympics, as they are at present far away from quota places. The results and the videos.
