International Classes - Kiel Week - Kiel GER - Day 1, US interims lead in the 420
They call it 'Kaiserwetter' - glorious, sunny weather and a 5 bft Easterly wind - prevailing yesterday for the first races of the non-Olympic (except Star) Classes, sailing 2 - 3 heats each. Only 17 Starboats are present for the last Worldcup Regatta, that means WC-points for all entrants. The only really internationally competing team Polgar/Koy GER leads ahead of Bereznhov/Masalov RUS and the surprising Barbara Veigl-Vosbury/Guy Avallon USA (winning one race !). Youth classes are represented by the largest fleets. Koeppel/Bocklet USA, Charles/Charles ESP and Mas Depares/Menscal ESP were the winners of the only race in their 420 groups. In the 29er, Llena-Prats/Mahiques ESP have already a clear lead after three races in front of Williford/Friesecke USA and Lipski/Zak POL. The daily report mentions Robles/Trittel ESP as leaders, but they are nowhere in the ranking lists for the moment. A large fleet shows up also in the Europe Class, where the first three are Matthias Livbjerg DEN, Sylvain Notonier FRA and Anna Livbjerg DEN. On the way to add another Kiel Week victory - their 20th ! - are again Hunger/Kleiner GER in the 5o5. Conrads/Haines USA are 4th. Roland and Nahid Gäbler GER as leaders in the Tornados are no surprise, but astonishing are the newcomers Stéphanie Rossé/Andreas Gloor SUI on rank 2 ! The Livecenter offers direct links to all race result, but based on the experience of the previous days, it remains questionable how accurate they are. Read also the official daily report.
