Star World Championship 2012 Hyeres FRA Day 4, no successful day for the NorAm Starboat sailors
The fresh breeze of Monday was replaced by a moderate steady Easterly wind yesterday. The fleet was very quickly spread over a large area with some of the title favorites and candidates for Olymic berths finally on less comfortable positions, such as Lööf/Salminen SWE (now rank 15) or Negri/Voltolini ITA, superior European Champion last year and now after another abandonement (again after a collision), down on rank 52. For the very first time, Italy will not be represented at the forthcoming Olympic Starboat Regatta ! Ian Percy/Andrew Simpson GBR extended their overall lead with another victory on 10 points thanks to an exceptional downwind speed. Scheidt/Prada BRA and a point behind O'Leary/Burrows IRL are on the remaining podiums' seats. The best cards for an Olympic berth have Hestbaek/Oleson DEN (8th), Pepper/Turner NZL (9th), Arapov/Miclicic CRO (10th) and Spitzauer/Habermüller AUT (11th). Four points further back lie Papathanassiou/Tsotras GRE in wait for a mistake by their opponents. The ranks 33 (Mendelblatt/Fatih USA) and 41 (Clarke/Björn CAN) did not help to improve the overall score for the North Americans remaining on the overall positions 19 and 21. The results, the report and the video of the day.
