ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship 2012 - Dublin IRL - Day 1

Cool weather and a 6-12 kn breeze prevailed on day one of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Dublin IRL, and two races were completed in all eight events. Setting the pace were the defending champions Carlos Robles/Florian Trittel ESP in the 29ers with the day ranks 1 and 2, but only one point behind are Wilson/Wilson USA, while Kohlhoff/Werner GER follow on 3rd. In the Lasers Radial Boys, Tobias Hemdorff DEN ahead of Maxim Nikolaev RUS and Mark Spearman AUS are the top three. A convincing first day delivered Line Höst NOR in the Lasers Radial Girls finishing 1 and 2. Oren Jacob ISR and Martina Reino ESP follow behind. In the 420 Boys, Pirouelle/Sipan FRA are first one point in front of Charles/Charles ESP, while Crosbie/Roberts IRL on the 3rd place are farther behind. Five teams (from 3 continents) are tied on top of the 420-Girls: Baram/Shoshan ISR, Paternoster/Disalle ITA, Lim/Siew SIN, Horwitz/Fuentes CHI and Poret/Chevet FRA. Surprising leaders in the SL-16-catamarans are Demesmaeker/Hendricks BEL, tied with Darmann/Copeland AUS on rank 1. Henri Demesmaeker BEL, with age 14 the youngest participant, had the advantage of his light weight in these low wind races. The defending champions Lowy/Vidal BRA follow on rank 3. A flawless score sheet has Saskia Skills GBR with two race wins in the RS:X-Girls ahead of Veronica Fanciulli ITA and Lydia Cahu HKG. In the RS:X-Boys, the defending champion Wonwot Cho KOR is already on top again, in front of Bautista Saubidet ARG and Imry Kate ISR. The official report and the video of the day.
