Olympic Games 2012 - Weymouth GBR - Day 13

Saturday, August 11, 2012
The 470 Medal Races in Weymouth were sailed yesterday in a very light breeze, and - in spite of the small points' gaps between the top-2 teams, the positions on top did not change. Matthew Belcher/Malcom Page AUS took Gold in the men's class after an intense fight, already the third sailing Gold for Australia. Luke Patience/Stuart Bithill GBR had to content themselves with Silver. Lucas Calabrese/Juan De la Fuente ARG on rank 3 earned the first sailing medal for Argentina.
Jo Aleh/Olivia Powrie NZL, taking the lead just after the start with a move on the right side, were the superior winners of the Medal Race. Hannah Mills/Saskia Clarke GBR, forced to go left trying an attack, were last on the first mark, and the game was over. Lisa Westerhof/Lobke Berkhout NED defended their Bronze Medal ahead of Camille Lecointre/Mathilde Géron FRA 4th.
The Women's Match Race ended - after a long postponement - just at time-limit with a Best-of-Three instead of the planned Best-of-Five result. Olivia Price AUS defeated Silja Lehtinen FIN after a very intense gybing duel just on the finish line with a few centimeters (from the spinaker) with 2-1, Tamara Echegoyen ESP had the upper hand on Ekaterina Skudina RUS, leading initially, also with 2-1. With this result, the two dominators of the Round Robin will sail the Final today, the loosers meet in the Petit Final. All ranking lists.
