Olympic Games 2012 - Weymouth GBR - Day 5

Friday, August 3, 2012
After 8 races sailed in the Finns, the Starboats and 49ers, and 6 races in the RS:X-Windsurfers and Lasers Standard and Radial, some top contenders for medals are clearly visible. While with Percy/Simpson GBR in the Stars, Outteridge/Jensen AUS in the 49ers, Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED and Marina Alabau ESP in the RS:X windsurfers the most mentioned favorites are on top, some surprises happened in other classes, above all in the Lasers. Annalise Murphy IRL leads with the Radials after a brilliant 4-wins-in-a-row series during the first two days, and the young Pavlos Kontides CYP is on top of the Lasers Standard ahead of the dominator of the class and ISAF World Sailor of the Year Tom Slingsby AUS. The superstar Ben Ainslie GBR shooting for his 4th Gold Medal was yesterday for the first time the day's best in the Finns, but he is still behind the top-sailing Jonas Hoegh-Christensen DEN. The Women Match-Race really starts with the Quarterfinals. Up to now, Olivia Powrie AUS, age 20, showed a flawless performance winning all 10 matches in the Round Robin so far. For the first time sailing yesterday were the 470 men, and Patience/Bithell GBR are the firs leaders with the day ranks 1 and 2. Surprisingly on the 2nd place are Schmid/Reichstätter AUT. All results and he daily reports.
