 VOR65 Ocean Race 2017/18 Leg7 Day 16
The variable wind conditions on the South Atlantic after the passage of the Falklands had a major influence on the gaps between the boats. 'Dongfeng' (Charles Caudrelier FRA) moved up to the leading 'Brunel' (Bouwe Bekking NED) and the two teams are battling for the lead sailing at sight. With a 52nm backlog, 'AkzoNobel' (Simeon Tienpont NED) remains in the race for winning in Itajai BRA 1'000nm or about 3 days away. 'Turn the tide on plasic' on rank 4 is still trying to repair the damaged spreader without loosing too much speed fortunately. Here the news. 'Mapfre' (Xavi Fernandez ESP) however is almost 300nm back after the repair stop and will most likely remain on the 5th and last place. 'Vestas' has reached the Falklands under motor and hopes to be able to replace the broken mast in due time in the middle of nowhere.
