Moth, Wasp, ACat Foiling Week Malcesine ITA Day 1
Yesterday the 5th edition of the Foiling Week began on Lake Garda. It combines regattas of booming Foiler classes with lectures and presentations on the subject. The Moths and Wasps got off to a great start with big fleets: The first race of the Wasps was won by Tommaso Ciaglia ITA ahead of Emmanuel Taine FRA. (63 participants). The Moth class was dominated by the America's Cuppers: World Champion Paul Goodison GBR won the only race of the day ahead of Francesco Bruni ITA, (74 participants). Two races were sailed in the Easy-to-Fly Catamaran category. The first leader is Vendée Globe veteran Jean-Pierre Dick FRA ahead of Pierre-Eric Detroyat SUI. The two-person prototype class was dominated by the Swiss flying-phantom catamarans: Maxime Bachelin SUI leads Kristoffer Jonson SUI and Guillaume Rol SUI followed by several Olympic Nacra 17 catamarans with teams from China and Uruguay. At the start are 11 teams.
In the meeting room, Eric Monnin SUI had the opportunity to showcase his foiling ‘Gonet’ prototype and the New Zealand America's Cup team presented their latest projects.
