World Sailing Annual Conference Sarasota FL, USA Day 6 Olympia 2014 without the Finn
Yesterday, the World Sailing Council decided on the Olympic Events 2024 (Paris/Marseille). The Laser Standard and Radial, the 49er and 49FX, the RS:X Windsurfers and the Nacra-17 catamaran were confirmed. New, will be a Kit-Foiler Mixed Event, a Two-Person-Dinghy Mixed event and a Two-Person Mixed Offshore Event. The One-Person-Dingy Mixed Event - with the Finn as Men's boat - has been deleted in lieu of the Offshore Event.
This Council decision could be overturned on Sunday at the Annual General Meeting (with Delegates from all Member National Authorties) with a 75% majority vote. For the first time in its history, World Sailing is about to fix Olympic Events for Classes not yet existing, and this against the regulations of the federation .... but nobody seems to care ! The final Class decisions will be made at the 2019 Annual Meeting.
The official report.
