Olympic Worldcup 2016 Weymouth GBR Day 2
Lack of wind reduced the program on the opening day to only one race of the RS:X windsurfers, and yesterday a thick fog disturbed racing at the Weymouth Worldcup event. Finally in the afternoon, the fleets went off in a 10-15 kn wind.
In the 470 men, three races were completed and with the discard already activated, the top boats are closely together. Sofian Bouvet/Jérémy Mion FRA are first with a one points lead on Schmid/Reichstädter AUT and 2 on Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS. In the 470 women, three teams share the lead: Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are on top with the ranks 3/1 ahead of Mills/ Clark GBR (1/3) and Weguelin/Ainsworth GBR (2/2).
In the 49ers, Logan Dunnin/Jack Simpson NZL booked four top-ten finishes and lead one point ahead of Botin/Lopez ESP. Lise Ericsson/Hanna Klinga SWE, winners of the Hyères Worldcup in April, took the lead in the 49ersFX one point ahead of Gross/Jonsson SWE. Dobson/Ainsworth GBR follow as 3rd.
The favorite Giles Scott GBR has taken the first position in the small Finn fleet right from the beginning, however shared with Ben Cornish GBR. Fabien Pic FRA follows on rank 3. In the Nacra 17, Luke Ramsey/Nikola Gierke CAN are on top 4 points ahead of Besson/Riou FRA and another 2 points of Kohlhoff/Werner GER.
The light to moderate wind so far was welcomed by the Chinese windsurfers. In the RS:X men, Chunzhuang Liu CHN and Aichen Wang CHN are on the ranks 2 and 3 behind the leader Toni Wilhelm GER, and in the RS:X women, Peina Chen CHN won all 3 races of the day.
