Yesterday was the first race day at the Olympic Classes Trofeo Princesa Sofia on Palma Bay with a 12-15 kn unconstant varying wind from the land decreasing during the day.
In the 470 men, split in two groups, Pavel Sozykin/Denis Gribanov RUS took the lead with two race wins in their group. Mendes/Thiesen BRA and McNay/Hughes USA are the first chasers. Two race wins also for the best 470 women Tina Mrak/Veronika Macarol SLO with Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP and Menxi Wei/Yani Xu CHN on the rank 2 and 3.
The 49ers completed three races, and three teams share the lead with 4 points (worst result discarded), i.e. Peters/Sterrit GBR, Bildstein/Hussl AUT and the new composed team Team Fletcher/Bithell GBR. In absence of the Olympic medalists, new names appear on top of the rankings in the 49ersFX with Lim/Low SIN on first ahead of Naess/Rönningen DEN and Sebesi/Dubois FRA.
On rank 1 of the Finns is Deniss Karpak EST closely followed by Nenad Bugarin CRO. Jorge Zarif BRA on the 3rd place is already somewhat back. The Nacra17 top team is Lin Cenholt/Christian-Peter Lübeck DEN in front of Tom Phipps Niki Boniface GBR. The multiple Moth European Champion Chris Rashley GBR sailing with Laura Marimon GBR is on the excellent 5th interim's place in his first Nacra-17 regatta.
Leader in the RS:X men windsurfers is Pavel Tarnowski POL followed by Nimrod Masiach ISR and Ivan Pastor ESP. The best RS:X women windsurfer so far is Marta Magetti ITA ahead of Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL and Stefania Elfutina RUS. Laser news are in a separate text below.
