Light and variable winds between 6 and 10 kn prevailed on the first day of the Laser Standard World Championship in Split CRO and the 147 participants' fleet, split in three Groups, sailed 2 races each.
The Olympic medalist Pavlos Kontides CYP won both heats of his Group and took the overall interim's lead ahed of Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, twice on 2nd. The 3rd place is shared by Sam Meech NZL, Giovanni Coccoluto ITA and Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR. Some favorites, among them Tonci Stipanovic CRO (a 17th race rank) and the defending Champion Tom Burton AUS (a 21st place) had already their first downers. Eliot Merceron SUI had two good races finishing in the top-15 of his Group and stays on rank 32 overall. Arthur Baudet SUI, in his first Laser Worlds, is on the 98th place.
