420 World Championship 2017 Fremantle AUS Day 5, the Swiss
Moderate winds prevailed yesterday in Fremantle after the windy first days at the 420 World Championship, but the Spanish teams dominated also in these conditions.
On the last day of the Championship, the first race of the Open (Boys') fleet was already completed this morning UTC and the Spanish teams will most probably end up with a full podium. Open is only who of the trio will grasp the title: Enrique Lujan/Pablo Lujan ESP took the lead this morning 2 points ahead of Carlos Balaguer/Antoni Massanet ESP. Another 4 points back are Albert Torres/ Francisco Mulet ESP and they too have still an option on the title. The two Swiss teams sailing in the Goldfleet kept their positions: Morgan Lauber/Léo Tétaz SUI stays on 14th, Nick Zeltner/Till Seger SUI on 27th.
In the Girls ranking, an Australian trio is on the top ranks. Nia Jerwood/Monique De Vries AUS 4 points ahead and Laura Harding/Eleanor Grimshaw AUS will duel for the title in the last race today, as Sophie McIntosh/ Orla Mulholland AUS on 3rd are over 40 points behind. Solène Mariani/Maude Schmid SUI sailed their best race ranking finishing 5th this morning, consolidating their remarkable 9th place overall.
The most exciting final race will be held in the U17-classifications where four teams are separated by 2 points only. Demetrio Sposato/Gabriele Centrone ITA are one point ahead of Martín Wizner/ Pedro Ameneiro ESP and Pol Marsans/Alex Marsans ESP. Sophie Mosegaard/Samira Rast SUI defended their 13th place.
All ranking lists, the daily news and the videos.
The final race is underway now and by noon the final results after 12 races should be available.
