World Sailing Annual General Meeting Sarasota FL, USA Decision Day !
After the Committee meetings during the past week, the World Sailing Council, i.e the 40+ delegates of Member National Authority (MNA) Groups, had their meetings on Friday and Saturday to decide on the Submissions on the table. Yesterday, the Annual Report of the CEO Andy Hunt GBR as well as the reports of the various Committees were received, discussed and passed.
Today, the Annual General Meeting with the delegates of the 140 MNAs is on the program, and some important Council decisions have to be confirmed, or overturned, such as the 2024 Olympic Event (Classes) selection that has received much criticism. With Mixed Kitesurfing, Mixed Two-Person Dinghy and avove all Mixed Offshore Sailing, three disciplines have been proposed, that do not exist in today's international regatta calendar. Today, the delegates of the MNAs have the last chance to avoid the revolution of Olympic Sailing.
The officil report of the day and a very explicit comment of Tom Ehman USA, including a plea of the Finn Class, to be eliminated in the new set of Olympic events. The session in Sarasota can be followed livestream beginning at 16h UTC.
