Laser Standard - World Championship 2019 - Sakaiminiati JPN - Day 3, the Swiss

Sunday, July 7, 2019
Major changes occurred on top of the Laser Standard Worlds rankings after the two races of yesterday. The down-under duo Sam Meech NZL and Matthew Wearn AUS, separated by one point, is new on top after six races. One point behind follows Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA on 3rd. Walking side-by-side 3 points behind the leader are the Laser legend Robert Scheidt BRA on 5th and the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS on 6th. The leaderboard is incredibly tight with still only 10 points separating the top-10 sailors.
In the fight for the 5 Olympic nation berth at stake (15 are already assigned), Jesper Stalheim SWE on 10th has the pole position. Eliot Merceron SUI on 33rd has to improve to compensate the 18 points missing for an Olympic qualification (Juan Maegli GUA, 21st).
Two races per fleet were completed today in 15-18kn winds and sunny skies to determine which sailors shall continue the Championship in the Gold-, Silver or Bronze fleets.
The results and the news.
