49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 World Championship 2020 Geelong AUS Final results
The combined 49er, 49erFX and Nacra-17 World Championship in Geelong AUS was concluded this morning UTC with two fleetraces and the Medal Races per class. ----- In the 49ers, Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL winning the two final fleetraces had an 18 point lead before the Medal Race and earned the Worlds title with a relaxed ride finishing the Medal Race as 4th. Diego Botin/Iago Lopez ESP moved one place up on rank 2. The winners of the Medal Race, Erik Heil/Thomas Plössel GER, clinched Bronze. Bad luck for the long-time leaders Bildstein/Hussl AUT, who - after a bad start to the Medal Race - even dropped from the podium finishing 4th overall. ----- In the 49erFX, the tied Charlotte Dobson/Sakia Tidey GBR and Tamara Echegoyen/Paula Barcelo ESP delivered a close battle that was decided just before heading for the final downwind in favour of Echegoyen/Barcelo ESP. Winning the Medal Race, Stephanie Roble/Maggie Shea USA moved up on rank 3, grasping the USA Olympic selection over Paris Henken/Anna Tobias-Tunnicliffe USA. ----- In the Nacra 17, the clearly leading Nathan Outteridge/Haylee Outteridge AUS lost rank one after a collision during the start of the Medal Race. John Gimson/Anna Burnet GBR won the last race and earned the title one point ahead of Outteridge/Outteridge AUS. Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS followed on rank 3. ----- The event website.
