IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Les Sables d'Olonne FRA Day 5 the Foilers on the way up
At the western edge of the low-pressure system over the Azores yesterday, there was finally enough wind for the foilers, showing their speed potential for the first time moving to the top. Only the amazing Jean Le Cam FRA ('Yes we Cam', Non-Foiler) was able to stay in the leading group with his so far flawless strategy: The veteran of the fleet - 61 years old - is in 2nd place, 31nm behind Alex Thomson GBR. 10nm farther back is Thomas Ruyant FRA ('Linkedout', Foiler), another favorite. Already 65nm behind is Charlie Dalin FRA ('Apivia', Foiler) on 4th. Samantha Davies GBR ('Initiatives Coeur', Foiler) is the best woman in 9th place with a 100nm backlog. . ----- The next challenge is already awaiting the fleet: To pass the next strong low-pressure front with winds up to 60kn! Different strategies to circumvent the danger zone are being discussed, but experience shows that one or the other of the boats are usually hit! The Vendée Globe remains a race of superlatives! ----- The race tracker and the reports
