The 2017 Youth Sailing World Championship began yesterday in an 8-12kn wind, and we reported on the first results already yesterday morning UTC. The days' racing in China is normally completed around 10 a.m. UTC. This morning, the first results of day two are already available, with the Girls sailing first.
In the 420, Carmen and Emma Cowles USA took the overall lead with the ranks 1 and 2, and the disqualification of race 1 yesterday discarded. Hatty Morsley/Pippa Cropley GBR follow 12 points behind, tied with Maria-Clara Vignati/Emiliana Lopez ARG, on the ranks 2 and 3.
In the 29er Girls, Margherita Porro/Sofia Leoni ITA are on top 7 points ahead of Zoya Novikova/Diana Sabirova RUS and Emilie Andersen/Maren Edland NOR on the ranks 2 and 3.
The Nacra 15 catamarans completed their 3 races of today as well and Lucas Claeyssens BEl (age 13) together with his crew Anne Vandenberghe BEL defended his first place. Shannon Dalton/Jayden Dalton AUS follow 4 points behind on rank 3. 3rd are Max Wallenberg/Amanda Björk SUI, with a race win today, 5 points behind the leader and also a clear contender on the title.
The RS:X Windsurfers completed 2 of the 3 races of the day. In the Girls, Giorgia Speciale ITA and Ting Yu CHN share the lead at equal points, in the Boys, Yoav Cohen ISR and Hao Chen CHN have the same number of points on rank 1.
The 420 and 29er Boys as well as the two Laser fleets are sailing their day's program in the coming hours.
