Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - Final results

Overcast skies and a 15-20kn wind prevailed yesterday during the Star Sailors League Final on the Bahamas with the best 10 teams qualified, among them 8 former World Champions.
In the Quarter Finals, Lööf/Natucci SWE/ITA, Grael/Goncalves BRA and Cayard/Lopes USA/BRA were eliminated. The Semi Final was the end for Rohart/Ponsot FRA, Kuszierwicz/Zycki POL and Mendelblatt/Fatih USA. The remaining 3 teams met the qualifcation winners Scheidt/Boehning BRA, directly selected for the Final. But it was the day of Jorge Zarif/Pedro Trouche BRA, winners of the Quarter and Semi Finals, who had the upper hand in the 4-boat Final, taking the title and the lions' share of the prize money. The favorites Scheidt/Boening BRA had to content themselves with rank 2. Negri ITA/Kleen GER finished 3rd, ahead of Melleby NOR/Revkin USA, btw another podium for Frithjof Kleen GER after his 2017 victory with Paul Goodison GBR,

Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - Day 4

Yesterday, the qualifications for today's 'Super Saturday' of the SSL Final on the Bahamas was concluded with 4 races sailed again in a well-established seabreeze between 12 and 15kn. The best 10 teams will continue the competition in the next round. The two best are already qualified for the Final of the best four. The after two more race wins clearly leading Robert Scheidt/Henry Boening BRA, 22 points ahead of Mark Mendelblatt/Brian Fatih USA will therefore resume racing later today. Diego Negri/Frithjof Kleen GER moved up on rank 3. The fight for the rank 10 cut remained open until the last race, and experienced Starboat teams made it finally. On fire yesterday were Paul Cayard/Arthur Lopes USA jumping into the top-10 on rank 7 with the day ranks 2/1/3/14 to the disadvantage of Zsombor Beresz HUN/Michael Maier CZE descending on rank 11 tied with rank 10. Non of the invited Champions reached this year the knockout finals.

Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - Day 3

Three races were sailed yesterday on the Bahamas in moderate conditions with the experienced Starboat teams dominating the action. New leaders are Mark Mendelblatt/Brian Fatih USA 2 points ahead of Robert Scheidt/Henry Boening BRA. As best of the day (4/1/2), the 2018 World Champion Jorge Zarif/Pedro Trouche BRA advanced on rank 3 with a 9 points' backlog.
Today, the Qualification phase comes to an end with four more races of the full fleet on the program. The winner will be qualified directly for the Four-Boat-Final, and the second-ranked qualifier has the ticket for the Semi Finals. Ten teams in total will continue racing in the next round. The ranking list is very close with the positions 8 to 13 separated by 10 points only. Among the non-Starboat sailors, the Finn World Champion Zsombor Beresz HUN with Michael Maier CZE as crew was among the best yesterday and moved up on rank 10.

After a windless day, racing at the Star Sailors' League Final on the Bahamas began yesterday with four races sailed in freshening winds. The announced depression hit the fleet during the 4th race and in winds around 25kn, and some hot scenes occurred. Hamish Pepper NZL/Steve Mitchell GBR even lost the mast.
Overall leaders are Robert Scheidt/Henry Boening BRA 2 points ahead of Mark Mendelblatt/Brian Fatih USA. Diego Negri ITA/Frithjof Kleen GER are on the 3rd place. The non-Starboat Champions had obviously a hard day in the prevailing conditions. Best-ranked is the Laser World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP (mit Markus Koy GER) on rank 15 tied with the 470 Champion Kevin Peponnet FRA/Mark Strube USA on 16th.

 Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - first races today This afternoon - our livestream coverage begins at 15.45h UTC - the start to the first races of the Star Sailors' League Final on the Bahamas will be given 25 Top-Teams (20 Olympia-Medals !) will be fighting for the 200'000 $ total prize money with 40'000 $ for the winners.  Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - Start tomorrow This year again, the Star Sailors League Final on the Bahamas presents the most competitive sail-racing fleet ever with the 10 top-ranked team of the Star Class Ranking list together with 15 Champions from Olympic Classes. Ten Olympic Medalists, 13 former Starboat World Champions and five World Champions from Olympic Classes - Kevin Peponnet FRA (470), Sime Fantela CRO (49er), Pavlos Kontides CYP (Laser), Ruggero Tita ITA (Nacra 17) and Jorge Zarif BRA (Finn) - will compete.
