49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 World Championship 2016 Clearwater FL, USA Start today
Racing at the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra-17 World Championships in Clearwater FL USA begins today.
Hot favorites in the 49ers are Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL, undefeated 1305 days since their Silver Medal at the 2012 London/Weymouth Olympics, and not to forget successfully underway in A-Cat and Moth top events. Moreover, both are member of the 'Emirates Team New Zealand' core sailing team ..... no wonder that they were elected ISAF World Sailors of the Year 2015 last November. The 49er preview.
More open is the outcome in the 49ersFX. After dominating the new Olympic Women Skiff Class in the first two years, Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA and Alexandra Maloney/Molly Meech NZL have now been joined on top by three (!) Danish teams, and also the World Champions 2015 Giulia Conti/Francesca Clapcich ITA have to be considered for top ranks. The 49erFX preview as well as the 49er & 49erFX entry lists.
Dominators in the Nacras were Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA winning three World Champion's titles in a row. But during the past 6 months, some new teams mixed up the hierarchy of the class, above all the now World-number 1 Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS. Matias Bühler/Nathalie Brugger SUI, on the podiums in both tune-up regattas in Florida - the North American Championship and the Miami Worldcup - are also hot contenders for a Medal at the Worlds. 42 teams are on the entry list. The races will probably be presented 'Livestream' on our homepage as from next Friday.
